Overview

The following information provides an example for configuring dynamic IPv6 DNS to allow users to access a host.

Prerequisites

The following information applies to Comware 7-based access controllers. Procedures and information in the examples might be slightly different depending on the software or hardware version of the H3C access controllers.

The configuration examples were created and verified in a lab environment, and all the devices were started with the factory default configuration. When you are working on a live network, make sure you understand the potential impact of every command on your network.

The following information is provided based on the assumption that you have basic knowledge of DNS.

Example: Configuring dynamic IPv6 DNS

Network configuration

As shown in Figure 1, configure the DNS server to store the mapping between the host's domain name host and IPv6 address 1::1/64 in the com domain. Configure dynamic IPv6 domain name resolution and specify the DNS suffix as com on the AC so that the client can use domain name host to access the host.

Prerequisites

Configure static routes or a dynamic routing protocol on all devices to make sure the network connections are available.

Procedures

Configuring the DNS server

On the DNS server, configure the mapping between the host's domain name host and IPv6 address 1::1/64 in the com domain. (Details not shown.)

Configuring the DNS client

1.     Click the System View tab at the bottom of the page.

2.     From the navigation pane, select Network Configuration > Network Services > DHCP/DNS.

3.     Click the IPv6 DNS tab.

4.     Specify 2::2 as the IPv6 DNS server IP address.

5.     Click the Add icon .

6.     Click the Advanced settings button .

7.     Enter domain name suffix com.

8.     Click the Add icon .

Verifying the configuration

# Verify that the AC can use the dynamic domain name resolution to resolve domain name host.com into IPv6 address 1::1.

<AC> ping host

Ping6(56 data bytes) 2::1 --> 1::1, press CTRL_C to break

56 bytes from 1::1, icmp_seq=0 hlim=128 time=1.653 ms

56 bytes from 1::1, icmp_seq=1 hlim=128 time=0.529 ms

56 bytes from 1::1, icmp_seq=2 hlim=128 time=0.452 ms

56 bytes from 1::1, icmp_seq=3 hlim=128 time=0.460 ms

56 bytes from 1::1, icmp_seq=4 hlim=128 time=0.422 ms

--- Ping6 statistics for host.com ---

5 packet(s) transmitted, 5 packet(s) received, 0.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 0.422/0.703/1.653/0.476 ms
