Overview

The following information provides an example for configuring a static IPv6 address to a VLAN interface to support IPv6 communication between the clients and the AC.

Prerequisites

The following information applies to Comware 7-based access controllers. Procedures and information in the examples might be slightly different depending on the software or hardware version of the H3C access controllers.

The configuration examples were created and verified in a lab environment, and all the devices were started with the factory default configuration. When you are working on a live network, make sure you understand the potential impact of every command on your network.

The following information is provided based on the assumption that you have basic knowledge of IPv6 basics and WLAN access features.

Example: Configuring a static IPv6 address

Network configuration

As shown in Figure 1, assign the AP and the AC to VLAN 10 and configure a global unicast IPv6 address 2001::1/64 for VLAN-interface 10 of the AC. Install IPv6 on the client to enable the client to generate an IPv6 address through stateless address autoconfiguration.

Procedures

1.     Configure basic wireless functions on the AC, including WLAN access services and radio functions. (Details not shown.)

2.     Assign IPv6 address 2001::1/64 to VLAN-interface 10:

a.     Click the System View tab at the bottom of the page.

b.     From the navigation pane, select Network Configuration > Network Interfaces.

c.     Click the Edit button  for VLAN-interface 10.

d.     Set the IPv6 address to 2001::1 and set the prefix length to 64.

e.     Click Apply.

3.     Configure VLAN-interface 10 to advertise RA messages.

a.     Click the System View tab at the bottom of the page.

b.     From the navigation pane, select Network Configuration > Network Services > ND.

c.     Click the Advanced settings button .

d.     Click the Expand icon  for RA settings.

e.     Enable RA message advertisement for VLAN-interface 10.

f.     Click Apply.

4.     Install IPv6 on the client. The client automatically generates an IPv6 address based on the address prefix information contained in the RA message.

Verifying the configuration

Verify that the client and the AC can ping each other. (Details not shown.)
