Overview

The following information provides an example for configuring ARP proxy.

Prerequisites

The following information applies to Comware 7-based access controllers. Procedures and information in the examples might be slightly different depending on the software or hardware version of the H3C access controllers.

The configuration examples were created and verified in a lab environment, and all the devices were started with the factory default configuration. When you are working on a live network, make sure you understand the potential impact of every command on your network.

The following information is provided based on the assumption that you have basic knowledge of ARP proxy.

Example: Configuring ARP proxy

Network configuration

As shown in Figure 1, Client 1 and Client 2 have the same prefix and mask, but they are located on different subnets separated by the switch. Client 1 belongs to VLAN 10, and Client 2 belongs to VLAN 20. No default gateway is configured on Client 1 and Client 2.

Configure ARP proxy on the AC to enable communication between Client 1 and Client 2.

Procedures

Configuring VLANs

1.     Click the System View tab at the bottom of the page.

2.     From the navigation pane, select Network Configuration > VLAN.

The page for configuring VLANs opens.

3.     Click the Create VLANs button  to create VLAN 10 and VLAN 20.

4.     Click the Edit button  for VLAN 10.

The page for configuring the VLAN interface opens.

5.     Select Create VLAN interface and set the IP address of the VLAN interface to 192.168.10.99/255.255.255.0.

6.     Repeat steps 4 and 5 to create a VLAN interface for VLAN 20 and set the IP address of the VLAN interface to 192.168.20.99/255.255.255.0. (Details not shown.)

Configuring ARP

1.     From the navigation pane, select Network Configuration > Network Services > ARP.

2.     Click the Advanced settings button .

3.     In the ARP area, click the right chevron button  in the ARP proxy row.

4.     Enable ARP proxy for VLAN 10 and VLAN 20.

Verifying the configuration
