Introduction
Default and non-default vSystems
A device supporting vSystems is considered to be a vSystem. This vSystem is called the default vSystem. The default vSystem always uses the name Admin and the ID 1. You cannot delete it or change its name or ID.
When you log in to the physical device, you are logged in to the default vSystem. On the default vSystem, you can perform the following tasks:
· Manage the entire physical device.
· Create and delete non-default vSystems.
· Assign non-default vSystems resources, including interface and VLAN resources.
You cannot create vSystems on a non-default vSystem.
A non-default vSystem can use only resources assigned to it. Resources that are not assigned to non-default vSystems belong to the default vSystem.
Unless otherwise stated, the term "vSystem" on webpages refers to a non-default vSystem.
Restrictions and guidelines
Restrictions and guidelines: VLAN assignment
· VLANs to be shared must already exist. Before assigning VLANs to vSystems, you must create the VLANs on the default vSystem.
· After a VLAN is assigned to a vSystem, the VLAN cannot be assigned to other vSystems.
· After a VLAN is assigned to a vSystem, the vSystem can use Layer 2 interfaces in the VLAN.
· After assigning a VLAN to a vSystem, the associated VLAN interfaces will be assigned to the vSystem automatically.
Restrictions and guidelines: Interface assignment
· After an interface is assigned to a vSystem, the interface cannot be assigned to other vSystems.
· The following interfaces can be assigned to vSystems:
¡ Layer 3 physical interfaces.
¡ Layer 3 physical subinterfaces.
¡ Layer 3 aggregate interfaces.
¡ Layer 3 aggregate subinterfaces.
¡ Layer 3 Reth interfaces.
¡ Layer 3 Reth subinterfaces.
¡ Tunnel interfaces.
¡ Loopback interfaces.
Manage vSystems
Configure a vSystem
Before assigning interfaces and VLANs to a vSystem, understand the actual service requirements and view assignment and configuration information about interfaces,
Procedure
1. Click the System tab.
2. In the navigation pane, select Virtualization > vSystems > vSystems.
3. Click Create.
4. Configure parameters for the vSystem.
