Introduction

The following information describes the typical configuration for bulk component update through UniSystem. With REPO, UniSystem can bulk update a server's HDM, BIOS, and CPLD, as well as the firmware and drivers of other server components (such as storage controller, NIC, and hard drive).

NOTE:

Starting from version 2.59, FIST software has been renamed as UniSystem.

Prerequisites

Procedures and information in the examples might be slightly different depending on the software or hardware version of the products.

The configuration was created and verified in a lab environment, and all the servers and software were started with the factory default configuration. When you are working on a live network, make sure you understand the potential impact of every command on your network.

The following information is provided based on the assumption that you have basic knowledge of the UniSystem server template.

Configuration example

Network requirement

As shown in Figure 1, deploy UniSystem on a PC as the UniSystem server and as the UniSystem client. Connect the Ethernet port of the PC and two servers to a switch on the same LAN, and configure IP addresses so that UniSystem can communicate with the servers normally. The server template should be applied automatically when two servers are incorporated by UniSystem. For the detailed networking information, see Table 1.

Analysis

1.     Add the servers to UniSystem.

2.     Filter the servers and download the server configuration list to customize REPO.

3.     Upload REPO to UniSystem and add a repository.

4.     Add a UniSystem component update task and select a repository to update the UniSystem component.

5.     Restart the servers to make the configuration effective.

Software versions used

This configuration example was created and verified on 2.51.

Restrictions and guidelines

·     By default, HDM and BIOS are upgraded with configuration retained through UniSystem.

·     Before upgrade, read the version release note for the firmware. If you need a cross-version upgrade, such as upgrade from BIOS 1.00.XX to BIOS 2.00.XX, or if the target version does not support the upgrade with configuration retained, contact Technical Support.
