Configuring Blade interfaces

Overview

A Blade interface, also known as engine interface, is an internal interface of a service module. A Blade interface connects the service module to a firewall. A Blade interface is always up on the physical layer and link layer.

A Blade interface operates in the following process:

1.     The firewall uses the switching engine to send incoming traffic that needs security processing to the Blade interface of the service module.

2.     The Blade interface forwards the traffic to the service module for processing.

3.     After the traffic is processed, the traffic is sent through the Blade interface and switching engine to the interface card where the outgoing interface resides.

4.     The interface card sends the traffic out to communicate with external devices.

Blade interfaces support the following functions:

·     Link bundling—Multiple Blade interfaces can be bundled to form a Blade aggregation group. The aggregate interface corresponding to the Blade aggregation group is called a Blade aggregate interface.

·     Traffic redirecting—When the device receives packets to be processed by a Blade interface, you must configure traffic redirecting to redirect packets to the Blade interface. For more information about traffic redirecting, see ACL and QoS Configuration Guide.
