Q.     Can RBM-based hot backup and IRF be used together?

A.     You cannot use RBM-based hot backup and IRF in combination.

Q.     What are the device and configuration requirements for hot backup system setup?

A.     Before you configure hot backup, verify that the following information is the same on the devices to be assigned to a hot backup system:

·     Device model.

·     Software version.

·     Interface IDs.

·     Location, number, and type of service modules.

·     Location, number, and type of interface modules.

·     IDs and types of interfaces for setting up the hot backup control channel.

·     IDs and types of interfaces for setting up the hot backup data channel.

·     Security zone allocation for interfaces with the same slot number.

Q.     Can the control channel and data channel of RBM be inconsistent?

A.     Yes. When the data channel is consistent with the control channel, the device will use the physical link of the RBM control channel to establish a data channel to transmit hot backup messages and packets that must be transmitted transparently. If the data channel is inconsistent with the control channel, the data channel is set up by using the specified interfaces. Even if the physical link of the data channel fails, the physical link of the control channel will not be used to establish the data channel to transmit related messages.

Q.     Can different VRRP versions be configured on the firewall in a VRRP group?

A.     Different VRRP versions can be configured, but the VRRP group cannot work correctly. Please ensure that the VRRP version is consistent.

Q.     Can VRRP load balancing mode be used when VRRP and RBM are configured together?

A.     No. RBM supports only the standard mode of VRRP, and does not support the load balancing mode of VRRP.

Q.     How to avoid re-election of the master router when the link state changes in case of heavy traffic?

A.     The transmission interval of VRRP notification message can be set larger to avoid re-election of a master router.

Q.     Will RBM-based hot backup be affected if VRRP collaboration is not configured?

A.     Yes. When VRRP does not collaborate with RBM-based hot backup, the link status is determined according to the priority of the VRRP groups. When VRRP collaborates with RBM-based hot backup, the link status is only related to the status (active or standby) of associated VRRP groups.

Q.     What restrictions should I follow to set the VRRP preemption delay?

A.     To avoid frequent active/standby switchovers, do not set a small VRRP preemption delay.

Q.     How to avoid inconsistent configuration in RBM hot backup?

A.     Enable automatic configuration synchronization and configuration consistency check. Configure or modify the configuration on the primary member device.
