Backing up the configuration file
Backing up the configuration file to a storage medium
Backing up the configuration file
You can back up the configuration file of a device by using one of the following methods:
· Copying configuration on CLI
· Backing up the configuration file to a storage medium
· Backing up the configuration file through TFTP
· Backing up the configuration file through FTP
Different devices use different storage media. This document uses flash memory as an example.
Copying configuration on CLI
1. Access the CLI.
2. Execute the display current-configuration command in any view.
3. Copy all output information to a TXT file to back up the configuration file to the storage medium of the device.
If a configuration item is displayed in multiple lines in the TXT file because of overlength, you must delete the redundant line feeds to ensure that the configuration item is displayed in one line. If you do not delete the redundant line feeds, the configuration item cannot be restored.
Backing up the configuration file to a storage medium
After the device starts, execute the following commands to back up the configuration file to the default storage medium of the device:
<sysname> save config.cfg
<sysname> copy config.cfg backup.cfg
To store the configuration file to another storage medium, you must specify the absolute path of the storage medium. For example, to back up configuration file config.cfg in folder test in the flash memory to folder testbackup on a USB disk and name the backup configuration file backup.cfg, execute the following commands:
<Sysname> copy flash:/test/config.cfg usba0:/testbackup/backup.cfg
Copy flash:/test/config.cfg to usba0:/testbackup/backup.cfg? [Y/N]:y
Copying file flash:/test/config.cfg to usba0:/testbackup/backup.cfg...Done.
Backing up the configuration file through TFTP
1. Configure the device as the TFTP client.
2. Start the TFTP server application on the PC, set the transmission path for downloading the configuration file, and specify the IP address and port number of the TFTP server.
3. Execute the tftp command in user view to upload the configuration file to the TFTP server (192.168.0.1).
<sysname> tftp 192.168.0.1 put flash:/config.cfg backup.cfg
Backing up the configuration file through FTP
1. Enable the FTP server on the device, and create an FTP user with username abc and password 123456.
<sysname> system-view
[sysname] ftp server enable
[sysname] local-user abc class manage
New local user added.
[sysname-luser-manage-abc] password simple 123456
[sysname-luser-manage-abc] service-type ftp
2. On the PC, configure the FTP client to establish an FTP connection to the device. In this example, the IP address of the device is 192.168.0.100.
C:\Documents and Setting\Administrator> ftp 192.168.0.100
Connected to 192.168.0.100.
220 FTP service ready.
User (192.168.0.100:(none)): abc
331 Password required for abc.
Password:
230 User logged in.
3. After the FTP user passes the authentication, the FTP client displays prompt ftp>. Enter binary upon the prompt, and specify the path of the directory for the FTP client to store uploaded files.
ftp> binary
200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary
ftp> lcd c:/flash:
Local directory now C:/flash:
4. On the PC, execute the get command to download the configuration file to the specified local directory, and name the file backup.cfg.
ftp> get flash:/config.cfg backup.cfg
5. Verify that files config.cfg and backup.cfg are consistent in size.
If the two files are consistent is size, the backup succeeds.
