Whether an IRF fabric supports software auto-update. When you add a device to the IRF fabric, software auto-update compares the startup software images of the device with the current software images of the IRF master. If the two sets of images are different, the device automatically performs the following operations: 1. Downloads the current software images of the master. 2. Sets the downloaded images as its main startup software images. 3. Reboots with the new software images to rejoin the IRF fabric. You must manually update the new device with the software images running on the IRF fabric for the device to join the IRF fabric if software auto-update is disabled. |

Recommended action
If the IRF port is up, no action is required.
If the IRF port is down, perform the following tasks to resolve the issue:
1. Check the operating status of the IRF fabric.
¡ If the IRF fabric is being established, verify that the IRF port is up after the IRF fabric is established.
¡ If the IRF fabric has been established, execute the display irf link command to check the link for connectivity issues and resolve the issues.
2. If the issue persists, contact H3C Support.
If the IRF port is silent, perform the following tasks to resolve the issue:
1. Check the operating status of the IRF fabric.
2. If the IRF fabric is not established, check the member links of the IRF port for connectivity issues and make sure the two ends of the IRF links are compatible in configuration and other aspects as required.
3. If the issue persists, contact H3C Support for help.
If the IRF port is disabled, perform the following tasks to resolve the issue:
1. Bind physical interfaces to the IRF port to establish IRF links.
2. Verify that the IRF port comes up.
3. If the issue persists, contact H3C Support.

Recommended action
To resolve this issue:
1. Execute the display irf topology command to identify the link state of the IRF port.
2. If the link state is TIMEOUT, check for the heartbeat timeout error message, which indicates that the link of the IRF port is disconnected.
For example, if the link state of IRF port 2 is TIMEOUT, you might have received the IRF port 2 is down because heartbeat timed out. IRF port 2 is down message.
3. To restore link connectivity, make sure a minimum of one fabric module is present and is operating correctly.
4. If the issue persists, collect alarm information and configuration data, and then contact H3C Support for help.
