Interface numbering

Conventions

The interfaces on an MSR1000 router (except for the MSR1008 and MSR1004-G routers) are numbered in the interface-type X/Y format.

·     interface-typeType of the interface such as console, GigabitEthernet, and Ten-GigabitEthernet.

·     X—Slot number. For panel interfaces, the number is fixed at 0.

·     Y—Number of the interface on the router, starting from 0. The number of an interface is the same as its identifier on the panel.

The interfaces on an MSR1008 or MSR1004-G router are numbered in the interface-type X/Y/Z format.

·     interface-typeType of the interface such as console, GigabitEthernet, and Ten-GigabitEthernet.

·     X—Slot number. For panel interfaces, the number is fixed at 0.

·     Y—Subslot number. The MSR1008 or MSR1004-G router does not support subslots and the number is fixed at 0.

·     Z—Number of the interface on the router, starting from 0. The number of an interface is the same as its identifier on the panel.

Examples

·     On the MSR1004S-5G router, GE fiber ports SFP5 and SFP6 are numbered GigabitEthernet 0/5 and GigabitEthernet 0/6, respectively.

·     On the MSR1008 router, GE copper ports GE2 to GE9 are numbered GigabitEthernet 0/0/2 to GigabitEthernet 0/0/9, respectively.
