Application Scenario
A large company usually has a large number of assets, including desktop and laptop PCs and servers. Maintaining and managing these assets has always been a heavy burden for network administrators. The DAM asset management function provided by the iMC EAD endpoint admission control solution can greatly improve the asset management efficiency, freeing the network administrators from repetitive and time-consuming maintenance tasks.
The asset management functions of iMC DAM are for registered assets only. Hence, to manage assets, you need to first register them in iMC DAM. There are two asset registration modes, automatic and manual. This case demonstrates manual registration of assets.
Manual Asset Registration
The following part demonstrates the procedure of manual asset registration by using a PC for an example.
The demonstration includes four steps, as shown in the following figure.
Step1 Enable Manual Registration
Enable manual asset registration in iMC DAM.
Step2 Add Assets Manually
Manually add the asset, that is, the PC, in iMC. The asset is in the unmanaged state. iMC DAM can manage the asset only after you register the asset by using the DAM client running on the asset.
Step3 Asset Manual Registration
On the PC, use the DAM client to register the current asset. During this process, check that the registration information of the PC in iMC is correct. Typically, the DAM client is integrated with the iNode client.
Step4 View the Asset Registration Result.
Check the registration result of the PC in iMC. The DAM server provides detailed information about registered assets for network administrators to view and analyze.
