H3C CAS license matrixes
Some of the features for H3C CAS are license-based. To use these features, you must install licenses for them. This document provides information about the license-based features and licenses available for them. For information about registering, installing, or managing a license, see H3C CAS Local Licensing Guide or H3C Software Products Remote Licensing Guide.
IMPORTANT: License-based features and attributes of licenses might change with software version over time. This document contains information about only licenses for software versions shipped with H3C CAS and some of the information might change over time. To obtain the most up-to-date information about licenses or information about licenses for software versions not listed in this document, contact your H3C sales representative or contact H3C Support. |
License types
Depending on the CVM edition and supported features, licenses for H3C CAS include the following types:
· Tier-based licenses—Licenses are available in standard, enterprise, and enhanced enterprise editions, each representing a unique set of features and functionalities.
· Upgrade licenses—Used to upgrade CAS from a lower edition to a higher edition, for example, from the standard edition to the enhanced enterprise edition.
· Feature-based licenses—Licenses for activating a feature, for example, SRM and heterogeneous migration.
IMPORTANT: · Make sure your CAS licenses are the same edition, standard, enterprise, or enhanced enterprise. To change the license edition, use an upgrade license. For example, you can use an upgrade license to upgrade a standard edition CAS license to the enterprise edition. · When you upgrade a license, make sure the CAS version and license capacity are the same for the license keys of the basic license and the upgrade license. For example, to upgrade a standard edition 32-CPU license to the enterprise edition, you must use a 32-CPU standard-to-enterprise upgrade license. |
Depending on the validity period, licenses for CAS include the following types:
· Preinstalled license—Preinstalled licenses are built into a system and are available for use on initial startup of the system. Users do not need to activate them. CAS provides a 180-day preinstalled license that allows you to use all features of CAS except for container engine, disk backup-based disaster recovery, and heterogeneous migration. A preinstalled license is typically time limited and cannot be uninstalled or transferred. When a preinstalled license expires, the license-based feature becomes unavailable. To continue to use the feature, you must purchase and install a formal license for it.
· Trial (temporary) license—You can contact H3C support to request a trial license that allows you to use all CAS features except for heterogeneous migration within a specific time period. The license takes effect after the license key is activated. You cannot use CAS after the license expires. To continue to use CAS, you must purchase a formal license. A trial license is typically time limited and cannot be uninstalled or transferred.
· Formal license—With CAS, a formal license is permanent and can be installed, uninstalled, and transferred. You can use all CAS features available for the edition of the installed license forever. You must purchase, register, and install a formal license. For more information about license registration and installation, see H3C CAS Local Licensing Guide.
Depending on the activation method, licenses for CAS include the following types:
· Non-flexible license—A license with the first four digits in the license key being 3130. A non-flexible license requires full activation. You can use this type of license to request and register only one CAS system.
· Flexible license—A license with the first four digits in the license key being 3132. A flexible license allows full or partial activation. You can use this type of license to request and register one or multiple CAS systems. For example, a software license certificate contains a license key for 10 physical CPUs. You can activate part of the license first, for example, four physical CPUs and then activate the rest in the future when necessary.
Restrictions and guidelines
· To use multiple types of licenses, follow these guidelines:
¡ If both a formal license and a trial license are available in the system, the trial license takes effect by default. The license validity period is the validity period of the trial license, and the license capacity is the sum capacity of the formal license and trial license. As a best practice, register a formal license before the trial license expires. After the trial license expires, you are denied access to CAS. You must upload the formal license file (local licensing) or reconnect to the license server (remote licensing) and activate the license.
¡ If multiple trial licenses are available for different validity periods, the trial license with the shortest validity period takes effect by default. The license validity period is the validity period of the trial license with the shortest validity period, and the license capacity is the sum capacity of all the trial licenses. After the license with the shortest validity period expires, you are denied access to CAS. You must upload an unexpired trial license file (local licensing) or reconnect to the license server (remote licensing) and activate the license.
· To use both the CAS Cloud Virtualization Manager (CVM) and Cloud Intelligence Center (CIC) licenses, follow these restrictions and guidelines:
¡ Use the same licensing method (local or remote licensing) to register the CVM and CIC licenses.
¡ CIC and CVM licenses share parameters in remote licensing. You only need to configure one set of parameters on CIC or CVM. If you configure the parameters on both CIC and CVM, the most recent configuration overwrites the previous configuration for the parameters on both CIC and CVM.
¡ After you apply for a CVM license in enhanced enterprise edition, the number of VMs allowed by the CIC license is still limited. You must apply for the CIC license from the license server. When CIC prompts that "Enhanced enterprise edition already. Reapplication is not required. Please confirm whether to change the licensing approach?", click OK. The CIC license changes to the enhanced enterprise edition, and it does not limit the number of VMs on CIC.
· CVM stateful failover does not require an independent license. To set up a stateful failover environment, select the stateful failover option when you register a CAS license.
· CAS supports remote licensing and local licensing.
¡ A license is used for local licensing if the first eight digits of its code are 3132A082 or lower.
¡ A license can be used for both local and remote licensing if the first eight digits of its code are 3132A09A or higher, such as 3132A09B and 3132A09C. When you use such a license for local licensing, upload the host.info file to bind hardware. Do not upload the DID file of License Server.
CAUTION: Mixed use of local and remote licensing is not allowed on a CAS system. |
