Introduction

HDM supports license management. After you obtain an activation file, you can use this feature to install the activation file, and then use the license-based features. This document describes how to obtain a license activation file and manage licenses on HDM.

Prerequisites

This document is not restricted to specific software or hardware versions. Procedures and information in the examples might be slightly different depending on the software or hardware version of the device.

The configuration examples were created and verified in a lab environment, and all the devices were started with the factory default configuration. When you are working on a live network, make sure you understand the potential impact of every setting on your network.

The following information is provided based on the assumption that you have obtained license keys and have basic knowledge of license management.

Application scenarios

This document applies to scenarios where you manage licenses for a server through HDM, enabling the server to legally access HDM software features.

Example: Managing licenses

Network configuration

As shown in Figure 1, the HDM management interface of H3C UniServer R4900 G6 (R4900 G6) connects to the PC through a switch, ensuring normal network communication. Install the activation file through license management from the HDM Web interface for the R4900 G6 server for users to use license-based features.

·     HDM information for the R4900 G6 server is as follows:

¡     IP address: 192.168.20.177.

¡     Administrator account: admin.

¡     Administrator password: Password@_.

·     IP address of the PC: 10.41.50.29.

Analysis

Log in to the HDM Web interface for the R4900 G6 server, and then install the license activation file through license management on HDM. After you install the activation file, you can use license-based features, including secure erasure, memory intelligent repair, performance consultant, and unified control. The available features vary by server model. For more information about licenses and their related properties, see H3C HDM Management Software License Matrixes.
