Mounting the switch on a workbench
|
CAUTION: · Ensure 10 cm (3.94 in) of clearance around the switch. · Do not place heavy objects on the switch. |
If a standard 19-inch rack is not available, you can place you switch on a workbench. The S5820X-26S switch cannot be mounted on a workbench.
To mount the switch on a workbench:
1. Make sure the workbench is clean and correctly grounded.
2. Place the switch with bottom up carefully, and clean the round holes on the chassis bottom with dry cloth.
3. Attach the rubber feet to the four round holes in the chassis bottom.
4. Place the switch with upside up on the workbench.

Connecting the grounding cable
|
CAUTION: Correctly connecting the switch grounding cable is crucial to lightning protection and EMS of a switch. |
Connecting the grounding cable for an S5820X-26S switch
The S5820X-26S switch has three grounding points, as shown in Figure 19. H3C recommends that you use the primary grounding point.

|
To connect the grounding cable for an S5820X-26S switch:
1. Connect one end of the grounding cable to the grounding point on the switch. See Figure 12.
2. Attach the other end (ring terminal) of the grounding cable to a grounding post on the grounding strip, and secure the grounding cable to the grounding post by using a hex nut.
Figure 20 Connecting the grounding cable
Connecting the grounding cable for an S5820X-28C or S5820X-28S switch
The S5820X-28C and S5820X-28S switches have a grounding point at their rear panels. This guide uses the S5820X-28S switch as an example:
To connect the grounding cable:
1. Connect one end of the grounding cable to the grounding point of the switch.
Figure 21 Connecting one end of the grounding cable to the S5820X-28S switch
2. To connect the other end of the grounding cable to a grounding strip:
a. Cut the grounding cable to a length according to the distance between the switch and the grounding strip.
b. Peel 5 mm (0.20 in) of insulation sheath from the end, and then insert the naked metal part through the black insulation covering into the end of the ring terminal.
c. Secure the metal part of the cable to the ring terminal with a crimper, and then cover it with the insulation covering.
d. Heat the insulation covering with a blow dryer to let it completely cover the metal part.
e. Connect the ring terminal to the grounding post of the grounding strip, and then fasten it with a hex nut.

Installing power modules
|
CAUTION: · For an S5820X-28C switch, do not remove the filler modules in the power module slots. Before you install a PSR300-12A, PSR300-12A1, PSR300-12A2, PSR300-12D1, or PSR300-12D2 power module on an S5820X-28C switch, make sure the filler module has been installed. · Do not install a 650 W power module (LSVM1AC650 or LSVM1DC650) and a 300 W power module (LSVM1AC300 or LSVM1DC300) on the same S5820X-26S switch. |
The switch provides two power module slots and supports hot-swappable power modules. A power module can meet the power requirements of the switch. You can install two power modules for redundancy.
Table 5 lists the power modules available for these switches. For more information about the power modules, see H3C PSR300-12A & PSR300-12D Series Power Modules User Manual, H3C LSVM1AC650 & LSVM1DC650 Power Modules User Manual, and H3C LSVM1AC300 & LSVM1DC300 Power Modules User Manual.
