Examining the Installation Site

Before installation, examine the installation site to make sure that the AP will work in a good environment. You can examine the installation site from the following two aspects.

Installation Site Selection

Keep the AP away from high temperature, dust, harmful gases, inflammables, explosive substances, electromagnetic interference sources (heavy-duty radars, radio stations, or electrical substations), unstable voltage, heavy vibration, or loud noise. The installation site should be dry, without any leakage, dripping or dew. The AP should be at least 500 m (0.31 miles) away from the seaside and should not face the direction of sea wind.

In engineering design, the site should be selected according to the network planning and technical requirements of the communications equipment, and the considerations such as climate, hydrology, geology, earthquake, electric power, and transportation.

Installation Flowchart

Figure 3-1 shows the installation flowchart of the WA2600 indoor series.

Figure 3-1 Installation flowchart

l          Before installing the WA2612-AGN to the wall-mounting bracket, you need to connect the network cable. Only the common network cable, rather than the shielded cable and cable with molded ends, is applicable.

l          Before connecting the console cable to the WA2612-AGN for debugging or pressing the reset button, you need to remove the device from the wall-mounting bracket.

l          When installing or removing the WA2612-AGN, try not press its top cover. Doing so may deform the inner antenna and affect its use.

Determining the Installation Position

Determine the installation position by observing the following principles:

l          Leave as few obstacles (such as wall and ceiling) as possible between the AP and the wireless stations.

l          Keep the AP far away from electronic devices (such as microwave ovens) that may generate RF noise.

l          Install the AP in a place where it will not hinder people’s daily work and life.

l          Make sure the ceiling is strong enough and the structure is suitable in case of ceiling mounting. Reinforce the ceiling if needed.

l          A padlock is recommended for securing the device to the wall-mounting bracket or other solid objects, thus to prevent any falloff in case of shocks. A Blossom 071 padlock or similar padlock is recommended for the WA2610-AGN and a standard Kensington lock is recommended for the WA2612-AGN.

Mounting the AP on a Wall

The following describes how to mount a WA2600 indoor series AP on a wall:

l          Installing the wall-mounting bracket on the wall

l          Installing the AP on the wall-mounting bracket

l          Locking the AP onto the wall-mounting bracket (optional)

Installing the wall-mounting bracket on the wall

Step1    Place the wall-mounting bracket tightly against the wall where the AP is to be mounted and mark the locations to drill holes for installing the screws. Then use a percussion drill with a bit of 6 mm (0.24 in) in diameter to drill holes on the wall. The drilled holes must correspond to those in the wall-mounting bracket.

l          There are eight installation holes (with a diameter of 6 mm, or 0.24 in) in total in the wall-mounting bracket of the WA2610-AGN. Select at least four of them for the installation.

l          There are five installation holes in total in the wall-mounting bracket of the WA2612-AGN. Select the three round holes (with a diameter of 5 mm, or 0.20 in) for the installation.

l          Before installation, clean dust inside and outside the holes with a dust collector and then measure the spacing of holes. If errors are not acceptable, you need to measure and drill again.

Pay attention to the following when drilling holes:

l          Hold the drill handle firmly with both hands, keeping the bit perpendicular to the wall to prevent tilted holes or damage to the wall.

l          The depth of the hole equals the length of the wall anchor plus the length of the drill bit. All the holes should have the same depth. Clean the holes before measuring their net depth. When drilling, you can use the dust collector to avoid dust spreading.

l          The bit is difficult to position on hard, smooth surfaces. In this case, punch a small hole on every mounting-hole mark before drilling.

Figure 3-3 Screw hole locations and screw hole size of the WA2612-AGN wall-mounting bracket (in mm)

Step2    Insert the pointed end of wall anchors into the drilled holes and tap the flat end of wall anchors with a rubber hammer until they are all flush with the wall surface.

Step3    Align the holes in the wall-mounting bracket with the wall anchors and insert screws through the installation holes into the wall anchors, as shown in Figure 3-4 and Figure 3-5.

Step4    Adjust the position of the wall-mounting bracket and tighten the screws.

The lock is user supplied.

Mounting the AP Through the Wall

l          This installation method requires that the thickness of the wall or the ceiling be less than 18 mm (0.71 in), and the wall or the ceiling bear a weight of at least 5 kg (11.02 lb.).

l          You are not recommended to use this method to mount the AP to a location made of low-intensity materials such as a plaster ceiling. If this installation method is required in such an environment, put a high-intensity plate beneath the nut to secure the installation.

Select the two installation holes of the wall-mounting bracket as shown in Figure 3-10 to mount the AP through the wall. Follow these steps to mount the AP through the wall:

Step1    Drill two holes on the wall or ceiling corresponding to the two installation holes on the wall-mounting bracket.

Figure 3-10 Installation holes on the wall-mounting bracket (in mm)

Step2    Insert the bolts through the installation holes of the wall-mounting bracket and the drilled holes on the wall (or ceiling), and then tighten the nuts of the bolts on the other side of the wall (or ceiling) to secure the wall-mounting bracket, as shown in Figure 3-11.

Figure 3-11 Mount the wall-mounting bracket through the wall

Step3    Mount the WA2612-AGN to the wall-mounting bracket. For details, refer to Installing the AP on the wall-mounting bracket.

Mounting the AP to a T-Rail

l          It is required that the width of the T-rail be in the range of 14 mm (0.55 in) to 24 mm (0.94).

l          This installation method applies only to T-rails.

Follow these steps to mount the AP to a T-rail:

Step1    Loosen the two M3 × 6 screws on each clip holder until the screw heads are lower than the upper edge of the nuts (do not remove the screws or they may get lost).

Step2    Adjust the T-rail clips to make the T-rail holder wider than the T-rail, and then lock the T-rail with the T-rail holder according to the arrow indicated in Figure 3-12.

Step3    Tighten the M3 × 6 screws on the two clip holders until the screw heads touch the T-rail, and then fix the screws.

Step4    Check whether the T-rail holder is fixed to the T-rail.

Figure 3-12 T-rail holder

Step5    Hook the mounting clip of the wall-mounting bracket to the mounting hook of the T-rail holder, as shown Figure 3-13.

Step6    Insert the two M4 × 8 screws through the two holes (with a diameter of 5 mm, or 0.20 in) on the wall-mounting bracket according to the dashed line shown in Figure 3-13 and fix the screws to the T-rail holder.

Step7    Check whether the wall-mounting bracket is fixed to the T-rail.
