To meet the informatization needs of universities, Tsinghua University needs to build a unified, fully functional and industry-outstanding private cloud platform to provide teaching, research projects and other comprehensive IT resource services.
One of the main objectives of Tsinghua University private cloud is to provide the cloud disk service with 100GB storage space for each of the university's 50,000 teachers and students, to meet the requirements of real-time data sharing and easy access during teaching and research.
Challenges
The netdisk storage system is designed for all teachers and students of Tsinghua University and requires a large amount of object storage space. It is highly sensitive to costs. In addition, the storage performance must be guaranteed to meet the high concurrent access requirement.
Solution
The cloud online disk solution is deployed by integrating ONEStor distributed object storage and Seafile online disk application software. It provides all teachers and students with application functions such as electronic file storage, backup, management, sharing and distribution.
A total of 120 ONEStor distributed object storage devices are deployed, with an available capacity of about 5PB. There are also five service-end network disk VMs, three database VMs, and two full-text retrieval VMs.
Benefits
- High performance:
The ONEStor object storage device uses a metadata separation deployment mode. Each storage node requires only one high-performance NVMe disk, to deploy metadata with a relatively high access frequency, thereby effectively improving concurrent access performance.

The ONEStor supports erasure code deployment, to ensure storage cluster performance, effectively improve storage space utilization and reduce storage costs.
- Rich functions:
The cloud disk supports Windows and Mac OS, IOS and Android mobile terminals and web access, as well as link sharing and user operation audit. Meet the requirements of easy access, real-time sharing, and secure use of files.
