PoE failures
PoE power supply failure
PoE power supply exception
Symptom
PoE power supply is insufficient or the PSE cannot supply power.
Common causes
· The power source does not match the device or has insufficient power.
· PSE firmware failure.
· The PD is a non standard PD and nonstandard PD detection is not enabled.
Troubleshooting flow
Figure 1 shows the troubleshooting flowchart.
Solution
1. Verify that correct power supplies are installed on the device.
For a PoE switch, use power supplies according to the PoE power supply scheme. For information about the power supply compatibility, see the installation guide for your device.
2. Identify whether PSE firmware is operating correctly.
Execute the display poe device command to display PSE information. If the state is faulty, the PSE has issues.
<Sysname> display poe device
Slot 1:
PSE ID Slot No. SSlot No. PortNum MaxPower(W) State Model
1 0 0 48 0 Faulty LSP1POEA
The output shows that the PSE has issues.
Contact Technical Support or the device vendor to obtain the PSE firmware of the target version, and then execute the poe update command to upgrade the PSE processing software in service.
<Sysname> system-view
[Sysname] poe update full POE-168.bin pse 4
This command will refresh the PSE firmware. Continue? [Y/N]:y
……
The output shows that the PSE processing software has been upgraded. Execute the display poe device command again to display PSE information, and check the on or off field for the PSE state.

3. Execute the display poe pse command in any view to display detailed PSE information. Verify the following information:
¡ The current power, average power, and peak power of the PSE are correct.
¡ Nonstandard PD detection by the PSE is enabled.
<Sysname> display poe pse
PSE ID : 1
Slot NO. : 0

¡ If the current power, average power, and peak power of the PSE are close to or reach the maximum power of the PSE, use PoE power with higher-wattage supply.
¡ If the PSE Legacy PD Detection field displays Disable, execute the poe legacy enable command to enable nonstandard PD detection.
4. Execute the display poe interface command in any view to display power supply information. Verify the following information:
¡ The current power, average power, and peak power of the PSE are correct.
¡ The PoE interface current and voltage are correct.
