Configuring cut-through Layer 2 forwarding
About cut-through Layer 2 forwarding
A cut-through forwarding-enabled device forwards a frame after it receives the first 64 bytes of the frame. This feature reduces the transmission time of a frame and enhances forwarding performance.
Restrictions and guidelines for cut-through Layer 2 forwarding configuration
· A frame is forwarded before its CRC field is received, and thus CRC-error frames are forwarded instead of dropped.
· After cut-through Layer 2 forwarding is configured, do not configure the settings related with data buffer thresholds. For more information about data buffers, see data buffer configuration in ACL and QoS Configuration Guide.
· Do not configure cut-through Layer 2 forwarding and the Burst feature at the same time. If you configure cut-through Layer 2 forwarding and the Burst feature at the same time, the Burst feature will not take effect. To use the Burst feature, you must first disable cut-through Layer 2 forwarding.
Procedure
1. Enter system view.
system-view
2. Enable cut-through forwarding.
cut-through enable
By default, cut-through forwarding is disabled.
