AC hierarchy commands

The WBC series access controllers and access controller modules do not support parameters or commands that are available only in IRF mode.

backup-ac

Use backup-ac to specify a backup central AC.

Use undo backup-ac to remove the backup central AC configuration.

Syntax

backup-ac { ip ipv4-address | ipv6 ipv6-address }

undo backup-ac { ip | ipv6 }

Default

No backup central AC is specified.

Parameters

ip ip-address: Specifies the IPv4 address of a backup central AC.

ipv6 ipv6-address: Specifies the IPv6 address of a backup central AC.

Usage guidelines

Only central ACs support this command.

You can specify only one IPv4 address and one IPv6 address.

Executing the undo command also terminates the backup CAPWAP tunnels between the backup central AC and local ACs.

delete file

Use delete file to delete a file from a local AC.

filename: Specifies a file by its file name, a string of 1 to 255 characters.

Usage guidelines

Only central ACs support this command.

This command takes effect only on the master central AC that has established a CAPWAP tunnel with the local AC.

Client MAC address.

Username

Client username:

·     The field displays the client username if the client uses 802.1X or MAC authentication.

·     The field displays N/A if the client does not use 802.1X or MAC authentication.

NOTE:

If the client uses portal authentication, this field does not display the portal username of the client.

AP name

Name of the AP that the client is associated with.

RID

ID of the radio that the client is associated with.

IPv4 address

IPv4 address of the client.

VLAN ID

ID of the VLAN to which the client belongs.

Negotiation result of Block ACK with TID:

·     TID 0 Both—Sends Block ACK for both inbound and outbound traffic.

·     N/A—Does not send Block ACK for both inbound and outbound traffic.

Supported VHT-MCS set

VHT-MCS supported by the client.

Supported HT MCS set

HT-MCS supported by the client.

QoS mode

QoS mode:

·     N/A—WMM is not supported.

WMM information is negotiated between an AP and a client that both support WMM.

Listen interval

Interval at which the client wakes up to listen for beacon frames. It is counted by beacon interval.

RSSI

Received signal strength indication. This value indicates the client signal strength detected by the AP.

Sending and receiving rates of data, management, and control frames.

Use display wlan local-ac to display information about local ACs managed by the central AC.

address: Displays local AC address information.

verbose: Displays detailed local AC information. If you do not specify this keyword, the command displays brief local AC information.

Use echo-interval to set the interval for a local AC to send echo requests to the central AC.

Use undo echo-interval to restore the default.

The interval for a local AC to send echo requests is 10 seconds.

Parameters

interval: Specifies the interval for sending echo requests. The value can be 0 or in the range of 5 to 255.

Usage guidelines

CAUTION

CAUTION:

Setting the echo interval to 0 seconds disables a local AC from sending echo requests. This setting is for test use only. For correct local AC and central AC communication, do not set the echo interval to 0 seconds.

Only central ACs support this command.

A local AC sends echo requests to the central AC at the specified echo intervals to identify whether the CAPWAP tunnel is operating correctly. If the local AC does not receive any echo responses from the AC before the keepalive timer expires, the local AC terminates the connection. If the central AC does not receive any echo requests before the keepalive timer expires, the central AC terminates the connection.

The keepalive time is the echo interval multiplied by three, the maximum number of echo request transmission attempts.

firmware-upgrade

Use firmware-upgrade enable to enable firmware upgrade for a local AC.

Use firmware-upgrade disable to disable firmware upgrade for a local AC.

Use undo firmware-upgrade to restore the default.

Usage guidelines

Only central ACs support this command.

To avoid configuration loss on the local AC, execute the save command on the local AC before configuring firmware upgrade.

This feature enables the central AC to examine the software version of a local AC while establishing a CAPWAP tunnel with the local AC. The local AC upgrades its firmware if it uses a different software version from the version stored in the APDB and then establishes a CAPWAP tunnel with the central AC. When this feature is disabled, the central AC does not examine the software version of the local AC and directly establishes a CAPWAP tunnel with the local AC.

Use location to assign a location identifier to an AP group.

Usage guidelines

After you assign a location identifier to an AP group, the AP group will be assigned to that location.

An administrator can view and manage only an AP group whose location identifier is accessible to his user role when he logs in to the central AC from the CLI and the Web interface.

In AC hierarchy network, clients cannot perform inter- or intra-local AC roaming when the central AC acts as the authenticator because roaming entries are generated only on the central AC. Perform this task to enable local ACs to generate roaming entries when the central AC is specified as the authenticator and enable clients to perform roaming.

When the central AC acts as the authenticator, RSN + 802.1X clients cannot perform fast roaming even if this feature is enabled.

Make sure the service template is disabled before you execute this command.

In an AC hierarchy network, after a local AC fails, its associated APs come online from the central AC to ensure service continuity. These APs remain associated with the central AC even if the local AC recovers, which increases the central AC's workload and affects its performance. You can manually switch these APs back to the local AC, but this operation is time consuming and might affect network operation.

To resolve this issue, enable automatic switch-back on the central AC to allow specific APs to automatically switch back to their recovered local ACs.
