Modular data centers can equip each module with independent power distribution and refrigeration units, simplify and speed up the construction of data centers, and achieve flexible expansion.

H3C’s modular uninterruptible power supply (UPS) helps data centers improve efficiency, save room, achieve flexible expansion, and cut investment in server rooms and operating costs. The row-level precision air conditioners of its micro-module products guarantee near-end and targeted air supply, further lowering the PUE and meeting the needs of high-density scenarios. Besides, the power and environment monitoring system of H3C’s micro-module products can enable data centers to realize all-round digital monitoring and management as well as U-level asset management, thus making management more efficient and operation and maintenance less expensive.

Promoting the Construction of Green Data Centers by Transforming Three Core Components of Data Centers

To provide more efficient computing power and data management capabilities at lower costs and with lower energy consumption, one of the keys to building green data centers, H3C has engaged itself in transforming architectures related to computing and storage.

The company has launched platinum and titanium power modules of different power levels and variable heat dissipation modules. The efficiency of such power modules at 50 percent load reaches as high as 94 percent. They can support cold backup for redundant power supply and switch the power supply into cold standby mode to save more energy through H3C’s Hardware Device Management (HDM), a remote server management system. In this way, they help increase the density of equipment and the cabinet utilization ratio of server rooms in high temperature conditions.

H3C has also made possible 3D accurate temperature monitoring, which, coupled with intelligent speed regulation of fans, can distribute airflow according to needs, thus saving energy and reducing noise as much as possible. In addition, the central processing unit (CPU) and hard disk can also be switched to sleep mode for energy conservation according to the running status of the system.

As green data centers have made new requirements for networks, such as high density, high speed, balanced load, and intelligent operation and maintenance, H3C has devoted itself to building networks featuring flexible expansion and simple architecture for data centers, in a bid to meet the needs for ultra-large-scale networking, increase the utility rate of space, and realize comprehensive upgrading of data centers.

For example, the company’s Application-Driven Data Center (AD-DC) solution, which allows standalone deployment and out-of-box experience (OOBE), helps with the rapid deployment of data centers.

H3C’s flagship 400G switch, which continues to adopt the classical orthogonal CLOS architecture without central modules, can effectively improve the heat dissipation efficiency of the whole machine and cut energy consumption. Together with Spirent, a leading global provider of automated testing and assurance solutions for networks, security and positioning, H3C has completed large-scale tests on the 400G switch. Its single port power consumption is merely 20W. Besides, the switch has achieved 100 percent efficient and uniform heat dissipation in service modules, and realized efficient power supply with magnetic arc blow-out technology as well as life-cycle management of carbon emissions.

Meanwhile, H3C has also made active efforts to build self-healing networks with smart technologies for the purpose of enabling networks to realize autonomous optimization, energy conservation and consumption reduction, and self-governance and self-healing.
