Thailand: H3C Powers Network Expansion of Rangsit University

Background

Thailand’s Rangsit University (RSU) has grown rapidly since its establishment in 1985 to become a leading private university. Located in Lak-Hok Patumthani approximately 20 kilometers from Bangkok, RSU has a solid reputation for academic excellence based on international standards. RSU’s student population grows every year causing its existing, decade-old network infrastructure to be in danger of becoming overwhelmed. The resulting degradation in performance and bandwidth would seriously impact RSU’s ability to provide reliable network services to its students, faculty and staff across the whole campus. RSU’s network needed better performance, reliability and scalability to support the university’s burgeoning student population and the deployment of future e-learning applications.

Technology Solution

H3C switches were deployed at the core and access layers of RSU’s network to replace aging units in three campus buildings. In the network’s core layer two H3C S9508 next generation 10G core multi-service routing switches and one H3C S7503 switch were installed in each building with one of the H3C S9508 switches replacing the existing core switch. The H3C S9500 series switch provides wire-speed forwarding performance and a high-capacity, high-density modular structure for abundant service functions, a powerful QoS guarantee, comprehensive security management mechanisms, and carrier-class reliability.

The H3C S7500 series switches are large capacity units, with high-density wire-speed 10Gbps interfaces, modularized L2 and L3 designs that support fast performance and the deployment of abundant services at an extremely cost-effective price point. In the access layer, nine S5648P and three S5624P switches were linked to the S9508 core units and two H3C S3600-28P-EI and four H3C S3600-52P-EI switches connected to the S7503 unit in the core layer. The S5600 switches have a hot swappable extended slot that supports 10GE for future expansions.
