Korea: Inha University Successfully Enhances Network Environment with H3C Solution

    26-12-2006

H3C provides excellent compatibility and reliability

Background

Korea’s famous engineering university, Inha University, wanted to create a high technology campus based on a powerful network infrastructure. When a new extension of dormitory buildings was constructed at the end of 2005, planning for the network infrastructure project began. In selecting products, key considerations for Inha University were security, concentrated traffic in a specific time, reliability and high compatibility. H3C’s solutions exceeded the requirements and were selected to build Inha University’s network infrastructure.

The Challenge

Compatibility is very important to Inha University, as their networks were built with multi-vendor solutions. Security is also a concern, as students’ activities, such as accessing peer-to-peer networks, can compromise security. Periods of unusual traffic during course registration and examinations require a reliable switch that protects against unexpected errors, while providing superior data transfer performance.

The Solution

The new dormitory buildings are expected to have 1,340 nodes that will be used by 1,200 students. To provide this, H3C deployed a S9505 back-bone switch and 42 L3 (S5624) /L2 (S3050) switches supplying two gigabits per floor and supporting a total of 10 gigabits for all 13 floors through the port trunking.

The Benefits

After a thorough trial period, Inha University found the function and performance of H3C’s solutions to be excellent in compatibility and reliability. Moreover, they considered the H3C switches to be very convenient to implement and maintain.

“We are very satisfied with H3C’s solutions, they offered superior performance over other vendors. Now we have a more powerful network infrastructure and can transfer network traffic flexibly among other existing networks,” explained Dong-hoon Lee, manager of system operation team, Inha University.
