H3C ONEStor Converged Cloud Storage Software License Matrixes

Some of the features for this product are license-based. To use these features, you must install licenses for them. This document provides information about the license-based features and licenses available for them. License types

·     Depending on the validity period, licenses for the product include the following types:

¡     Preinstalled license—Preinstalled licenses are built into a system and are available for use on initial startup of the system. Users do not need to activate them. A preinstalled license is typically time limited and cannot be uninstalled or transferred. When a preinstalled license expires, the license-based feature becomes unavailable. To continue to use the feature, you must purchase and install a formal license for it.

¡     Trial (temporary) license—Trial licenses are provided for you to verify the functionality of premium features so you can make an educated purchase decision. You can contact your H3C sales representative or H3C support to request a trial license. This license is time limited and cannot be uninstalled or transferred. When a trial license expires, the license-based feature becomes unavailable. To continue to use the feature, you must purchase and install a formal license for it.

¡     Formal license—A formal license can be installed through local licensing and cannot be uninstalled or transferred. You can use all features available for the edition of the installed license forever. You must purchase, register, and install a formal license. ·     Depending on the storage service type, licenses for the product include the following types:

¡     Non-converged storage license—A non-converged storage license can activate only one type of storage services that include block storage, file storage, and object storage. For example, if you purchase a non-converged storage license for block storage, you can use only block storage services. The available capacity for a storage service equals its licensed capacity. To use different types of storage services, you must purchase a license for each desired storage service.

¡     Converged storage license—A converged storage license can activate multiple storage services at the same time, including block storage, file storage, and object storage. All storage services share the capacity defined in the license. The total capacity used by all storage services cannot exceed the licensed capacity.

·     Depending on the license edition, licenses for the product include standard edition, enterprise edition, and upg-enterprise edition. The upg-enterprise edition license is required only when you upgrade the standard edition to the enterprise edition.

·     Depending on the licensed capacity, licenses for the product include the following types:

¡     Limited-capacity license—A limited-capacity license enables you to activate and manage disks with limited capacity. The number of licenses required depends on the desired capacity.

¡     Ultimate license—An ultimate license enables you to activate and manage disks with infinite capacity. For more information about this license, contact your H3C sales representative or contact H3C Support.

Restrictions and guidelines

·     For a failover deployment, you must install the same set of licenses on each node in the deployment to ensure service continuity after an active/standby switchover. For more information about the number of licenses per failover deployment, see Table 1.

·     The product uses flexible licenses whose first four digits in the license key are 3132. A flexible license allows full or partial activation. When you implement partial activation, multiple activation files are provided. You can use these files to register the same device or multiple devices.

·     When you use the non-converged storage license or converged storage license, follow these guidelines:

¡     The product supports mixed use of non-converged storage licenses for different storage services. For example, you can use non-converged storage licenses for block storage and file storage together.

¡     The product does not support mixed use of the non-converged storage license and converged storage license. For example, you cannot use a non-converged storage license for block storage together with a converged storage license.

·     When you use the standard edition license, enterprise edition license, or upg-enterprise edition, follow these guidelines:

¡     The product supports mixed use of the standard edition license and enterprise edition license only when they are for different storage services. For example, you can use a standard edition license for block storage together with an enterprise edition license for file storage. You cannot use the standard edition license and enterprise edition license for the same storage service together.

¡     When you upgrade the standard edition to the enterprise edition, make sure the upg-enterprise edition and the standard edition are for the same storage service and have the same capacity. For example, to upgrade the block standard edition license (100 TB disk) to the enterprise edition, use the block upg-enterprise edition license (100 TB disk).

·     When you use the limited-capacity license or ultimate license, follow these guidelines:

¡     The product supports mixed use of limited-capacity licenses for the same storage service when they are of the same license edition. The capacity of these licenses will be added up. For example, after you activate a block enterprise edition license (1 TB disk) together with a block enterprise edition license (10 TB disk), you can manage a capacity of 11 TB.

¡     The product supports mixed use of the limited-capacity license and ultimate license for different storage services. For example, you can use an ultimate license for block storage together with an enterprise edition license for file storage (1 TB disk).

¡     The product does not support mixed use of the limited-capacity license and ultimate license for the same storage service. For example, you cannot use an ultimate license for block storage together with an enterprise edition license for block storage (1 TB disk).

-     You can continue to activate an ultimate license after activating a limited-capacity license, but only the ultimate license will take effect. For example, if you activate an ultimate license for block storage after activating an enterprise edition license for block storage (1 TB disk), only the ultimate license will take effect.

-     You cannot continue to activate a limited-capacity license after activating an ultimate license. For example, you cannot activate an enterprise edition license for block storage (1 TB disk) after activating an ultimate license for block storage.

·     The device supports the following licensing methods:

¡     Local licensing—This method requires license installation on the device. The activation file for a license is device locked. You cannot install the activation file for one device to activate the license on another device.

¡     Remote licensing—This method requires license installation on the license server. Multiple license clients share the licenses of the license server. This licensing method simplifies license installation and management. With remote licensing, you install licenses, uninstall licenses, or transfer licenses for all license clients from the license server and the H3C license management platform.

In the current software version, only ultimate (unlimited) licenses support remote licensing. For more information about ultimate (unlimited) licenses, contact your H3C sales representative or technical support.

·     When you install a new license or expand the current license on the device, you must follow these storage capacity requirements:

¡     When a preinstalled or temporary license is expiring, you must install a new temporary license or a formal license to avoid affecting the ongoing services. Before the installation, make sure the storage capacity of the new license is greater than or equal to the storage capacity already used by the device. For example, if the device has used a block storage capacity of 10 TB before you install a formal license, make sure the minimum block storage capacity of the formal license is 10 TB.

¡     When you perform license expansion, make sure the storage capacity of the used activation file exceeds the storage capacity already used by the device. In the license expansion scenario, the storage capacity of the obtained activation file equals the sum of the original licensed capacity and the incremental licensed capacity. For example, the device has activated a block storage capacity of 10 TB before license expansion, and a block storage license of 1 TB is purchased for license expansion. After completing license registration and license-device binding on the official website of H3C, you can get an activation file containing a block storage capacity of 11 TB (Original capacity: 10 TB, Added capacity: 1 TB). This activation file can then be used for license expansion on the device.
