Introduction
This document provides examples for upgrading iNode MC and iNode PC through UAM or the iNode management center on an enterprise network.
Restrictions and guidelines
When you configure iNode MC and iNode PC upgrade tasks, follow these restrictions and guidelines:
· As a best practice, assign only one upgrade task to an access user. If different upgrade tasks are assigned to the access user and the user group that includes the user, make sure the tasks are of different types. Supported task types include version, configuration, and patch.
· Select the update type for the client upgrade tasks as needed. UAM provides the following update types:
¡ Optional—Displays a dialog box within 2 hours after the user passes authentication. The user can accept or ignore the upgrade.
¡ Force—Displays a message when the user passes authentication. The client upgrade cannot be cancelled and will occur within 2 hours. This option does not take effect on iNode MC upgrades.
¡ Immediate Upgrade—The client is upgraded immediately after the user passes authentication. This option does not take effect on iNode MC upgrades.
Example: Upgrading iNode PC through UAM
Network configuration
As shown in Figure 1, a user intends to access the enterprise network from a Windows PC through an 802.1X connection by using account b0040. The user's PC is installed with the iNode PC client and is connected to a switch that supports all EAP authentication methods for 802.1X.
In UAM, configure one of the following client upgrade tasks:
· A version upgrade task that upgrades the iNode PC client of the user from iNode PC 7.0 (E0401) to iNode PC 7.2 (E0402).
· A configuration upgrade task that upgrades the configuration of the iNode PC client of the version iNode PC 7.2 (E0402).
When the user comes online, UAM deploys the upgrade task settings to the iNode PC client of the user. The user can then follow instructions to upgrade the iNode PC client.
Software version used
This configuration example was created and verified on the following platforms:
· IMC UAM 7.2 (E0405).
· iNode management center: iNode PC 7.2 (E0402).
· iNode PC client: iNode PC 7.0 (E0401) and iNode PC 7.0 (E0402).
