About alarm messages

Alarms record internal events that occur on components to provide reference for system analysis and maintenance. Alarm information includes trap OID, trap details, and relevant parameters.

Viewing alarm information

1.     Log in to Unified Platform.

2.     On the top navigation bar, click Monitor.

3.     From the navigation pane, select Alarm Management > Active Alarms.

The alarm list displays alarms generated by all components on Unified Platform, as shown in Figure 1.

4.     Click the  icon in the upper right corner, and then select SeerEngine-DC controller alarms in the Alarm Categories column to display alarms for the SeerEngine-DC controller.

Table 1 Alarm fields

Field

Description

Severity

Alarm severity level, including Critical, Major, Minor, Warning, and Info.

Alarm Source

Name and IP address of the resource that generated the alarm.

Alarm Info

Information in the alarm. If the alarm does not contain any information, this field displays the alarm OID.

Clearing State

Options:

·     Active—The alarm has not been cleared.

·     Auto Cleared—The alarm has been cleared by the system.

·     Cleared (operator name)—The operator has cleared the alarm.

Ack State

Options:

·     Unacked—The alarm has not been acknowledged.

·     Acked (operator name)—The operator has acknowledged the alarm.

First Alarm

Time when the system first received the alarm.

Cleared At

Time when the system last received the alarm.

Acked At

Time when the alarm was cleared.

Repetitions

If you enable duplicate alarm counting in alarm settings, the system adds the number of occurrences for an alarm rather than generating a new alarm when it receives a duplicate alarm.

Duration

The duration from when the system received an alarm until the alarm was cleared.

Table 2 lists the modules that might generate alarm messages.

Table 2 Service module list

Service module name

Description

Matrix

A microservice PaaS platform based on K8s for orchestrating and scheduling Docker containers. The platform is mainly used for building Kubernetes clusters, deploying applications, and maintaining and monitoring systems, Docker containers, and microservices.

Aggregation

Provides alarm aggregation service.

Log

Provides logging service.

Region

Provides hierarchical site management and hub channel service.

RDR

Provides remote disaster recovery service, providing primary and backup disaster recovery between two remote sites. The components between the primary and backup sites are mutually backed up. When the remote disaster recovery system is running normally, the data of the service site is synchronized to the opposite site in real time, ensuring the consistency of data between the two sites. Users can configure manual or automatic switchover with arbitration through interface operation. When the service site fails, such as complete power failure, site network outage, or link fault connected to the outside, the service of the failed site can be taken over by another site to maintain service continuity and reduce losses

OCC

One-click inspection function is used to check the basic CPU, memory, and database situation of the operating system, the status of process services, the running status of basic services on which the control components depend, and the running status of user service such as network elements and virtual networks, and generate relevant inspection reports. It also supports setting the time for scheduled inspections and setting the standard threshold for inspection items

Alarm

Provides basic alarm services, including receiving alarms, escalating alarms, and forwarding alarms through SMS, email, WeChat, and WeCom.

Core

Provides portal, unified authentication, user management, permission, operator group, role, and role group services.

Backup

Provides service data backup and restoration services.

Using this document

This document categorizes alarm messages by service module. This document explains them in tables.

Description

Example

Trap OID

A trap OID contains an enterprise ID, generic ID, and specific ID. The digit after the last period is the specific ID, and the digit after the second-to-last period is the generic ID. All the remaining digits represent the enterprise ID. For example, if the trap OID is 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2.6.2001, the specific ID is 2001, the generic ID is 6, and the enterprise ID is 1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.23.11.2.

Trap OIDs are categorized into three types based on the generic ID: SNMPv1, SNMPv2, and the standard type.

1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.15.1.1.1.2.4.1.6.2

Trap OIDV1

SNMPv1 trap OID.

1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.15.1.1.1.2.4.1.1

Trap OIDV2

SNMPv2 trap OID.

1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.15.1.1.1.2.4.1.0.1

Recovery trap

A recovery trap has priority over defined traps or traps existing in the system. A recovery trap is in the Trap OID=value format, where value is a standard type trap OID, for example, Trap OID=1.22.333.4444.6.2. To specify multiple recovery traps, separate them with semicolons A recovery trap must use the same key parameters as the defined trap.

Host connection tracking table entry usage fell below level-1 alarm threshold

Trap name

Name of the trap, 1 to 64 characters.

Host connection tracking table entry usage reached level-1 alarm threshold

Trap level

Trap level. Values include Critical, Major, Minor, Warning, and Info.

Warning

Trap details

You can use predefined macros. The system automatically replaces them with actual values upon receiving a trap.

The connection tracking table entry usage of host ($2) reached level-1 alarm threshold. The threshold is $5%, and the current value is $4%.

Relevant parameters

For the relevant parameters field, specify the values in the key=value format, and separate the values by semicolons. A complete parameter must contain Parameter Name, Parameter OID, and Parameter Type.

$1: Parameter Name= Matrix node IP type; Parameter OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.15.1.1.1.1.1; Parameter Type= InetAddressType.

$2: Parameter Name=Failure cause; Parameter OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.4.2.58.1.2; Parameter Type=DisplayString

Impact

·     Data Loss: If an error occurs during the backup process, the backup data may not be successfully saved, leading to data loss.

·     Business Interruption: If the system backup fails, the system recovery or rebuild process may require more time to complete, causing system paralysis and business interruption.

·     Difficult Recovery: If the backup set is incomplete or backup was not performed manually in time, then recovering the data is often a complex process, potentially involving the restoration of multiple versions or multiple system components to ensure normal operation.

Cause

·     Insufficient Storage Space: If there is not enough space on the storage device for backups, the system backup may fail.

·     Hardware Failure: This can lead to system backup failure.

·     Software Malfunction: Errors or malfunctions in the backup software itself can also cause backup failure.

·     File Permission Issues: Backup may fail if the files being backed up are inaccessible or not granted sufficient permissions.

·     File Corruption: If the files themselves are already damaged, the backup may fail.

·     Network Connection Issues: Network issues can also cause backup failure if you are using a network backup service.

·     Configuration Errors: Incorrect backup parameter settings or non-existent backup target folders can also lead to backup failure.

·     Backup Timeout: Backup may fail if the data volume is particularly large, leading to a timeout during the backup process.

Recommended action

1.     Check Hardware Devices: System backup failure may be caused by damaged hardware devices.

2.     Try Backing Up Again: You can attempt to perform the system backup again or use backup software to ensure the backup is successful and stored in a reliable location.

3.     Check Space: You need to make sure there is enough storage space in the backup recovery working directory; otherwise, the backup may fail.

$1 SYSTEM recovery failed.

Relevant parameters

$1: Parameter Name=SYSTEM recovery failure; Parameter OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.4.2.58.1.1; Parameter Type=DisplayString

Impact

·     Out of service: System recovery is a mission critical task, if it fails, the system cannot run normally, which might lead to service interruption or halt.

·     Data loss: If recovery fails, it might result in data loss. If the data is not sufficiently stored and protected, and the backup is incomplete or not updated, then during recovery, data might still be lost.

·     Maintenance cost: If recovery fails, it might require a large amount of manpower, material resources, and financial resources to repair the system and data, consuming more time and resources.

Cause

·     Recovery file damage: If the file to be recovered is already damaged, the recovery might fail.

·     Insufficient storage space for recovery files: If there is insufficient space on the storage device for the recovery files, the recovery might fail.

·     Recovery file permission issues: If the file to be recovered is denied access or does not have sufficient permissions, it might result in recovery failure.

·     Recovery process interrupted: If the recovery process is interrupted, such as a sudden power loss, human operational error, etc., the recovery might fail.

·     Target device and backup data mismatch: If the version number of the backup file and the current environment do not match, the recovery might fail.

·     Recovery timeout: If the recovery data file is particularly large, causing a recovery timeout, the recovery might fail.

Recommended action

1.     Check if the target device and backup data match.

2.     Check if there is enough disk space on the disk where the backup recovery work directory is located.

3.     Attempt recovery multiple times.

4.     Check if the backup data is damaged.
