H3C’s VBRAS Router Selected for China Mobile’s Centralized Procurement of High-end Equipment

    10-08-2021

H3C was granted the second largest share of 30 percent in the No.6 bid package of China Mobile’s 2021-2022 centralized procurement of high-end switches and routers, with its SR8800-X BRAS—virtual Broadband Remote Access Server (vBRAS) router product—being selected for the first time for the centralized procurement. The achievement represents a milestone in H3C’s current development stage and a new starting point of the joint efforts of H3C and China Mobile to promote the integration and deployment of IT (Information Technology) and CT (Communication Technology) products and advance the restructuring and upgrading of the carrier’s networks.

As an important link in the construction of mobile fixed metropolitan area network (MAN), traditional BRAS has faced huge challenges posed by the growing demand for higher bandwidth and faster broadband connection with the rapid development of Internet technologies. Based on the development of technologies related to Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), China Mobile came up with the idea of separated control plane/forwarding plane architecture for the vBRAS system. The new architecture can realize improvement in the utilization ratio of forwarding plane, simplification of configuration, operation and maintenance (O&M), as well as fast arrangement for the launch of new business online.

In order to meet the needs of China Mobile’s services, H3C has launched a series of router products, with the SR8800-X BRAS being one of them. With its advantage of leading SDN/NFV technologies and strong capacity for hardware development, H3C worked closely with China Mobile and improved the standards of separated control plane/forwarding plane architecture for the vBRAS system. The vBRAS device newly selected for China Mobile’s centralized procurement has met higher requirements of mobile fixed MAN for BRAS devices in aspects including flexibility, scalability, and business delivery capability.

It’s worth noting that H3C has achieved fruitful results in bidding for carriers’ centralized procurement of high-end products in various fields, such as router, switch, server and firewall, fully demonstrating the company’s full-stack technological strength and products serving carriers’ cloud platform, network and security.

A few months ago, H3C was awarded 70 percent of the share in No.7 and No.8 bid packages of China Mobile’s 2021-2022 centralized procurement of high-end switches and routers. After winning the second largest share in No.3 and No.6 bid packages of the centralized procurement, H3C ranks first among all successful bidders in the centralized tender of the carrier in terms of overall share.

With the construction of 5G networks in full swing, carriers are embracing unprecedented opportunities for development. H3C is ready to, based on its Cloud & AI Native strategy and full-stack practice under “Digital Brain 2021”, join hands with China Mobile to drive network transformation.
