1 About the router
Unless otherwise stated, routing and forwarding units (RFUs), FIP modules, HMIC-F interface modules, HMIC interface modules, and SSD modules are collectively referred to as "modules" in this document.

Interface numbering
Conventions
The interfaces (except the management Ethernet interface) on the router are numbered in the interface-type X/Y/Z format. The management Ethernet interface number is M-GigabitEthernet 0/0/0.
· interface-type—Type of the interface such as GigabitEthernet and Ten-GigabitEthernet.
· X—Number of the slot where the module resides on the router, as shown in Table1-1.
· Y—Subslot number. For the SR6608-M or SR6616-M router, the slot number is fixed at 0. For the SR6608-F router, Y represents the slot number for the HMIC-F interface module on the FIP module, which is fixed to 1 or 2.
· Z—Number of the interface on the module, starting from 0.
Examples
For the SR6608-M router, an HMIC-XP4 interface module is installed in slot 6 of the router. Fixed SFP+ fiber ports on the interface module are numbered Ten-GigabitEthernet 6/0/0 through Ten-GigabitEthernet 6/0/3, respectively.
For the SR6608-M router, an RFU-560-G is installed in slot 0 of the router. The fixed SFP+ fiber port on the RFU-560-G is numbered Ten-GigabitEthernet 0/0/0.
For the SR6608-F router, a FIP-60-G module is installed in slot 2 of the device and an HMIC-XP2-F interface module is installed in slot 1 of the FIP-60-G module. Fixed SFP+ fiber ports on the interface module are numbered Ten-GigabitEthernet 2/1/0 through Ten-GigabitEthernet 2/1/1, respectively.
