Similar to a VM template, a desktop image is a file containing the operating system, application software, user data, and configuration file. A desktop image is the foundation of quickly deploying virtual desktops.
The system supports the following types of desktop images, VDI, IDV, and VOI. ARM hosts do not support IDV or VOI desktop images in the current software version.
When creating a VDI desktop pool, select a VDI desk image to bulk deploy multiple cloud desktops with several same configurations for users.
When creating an IDV desktop pool, select an IDV desktop image. The selected desktop image will be deployed to the IDV clients in the desktop pool for users. You can create a desktop image through manually creation or import.
When creating a VOI desktop pool, select a VOI desktop image. The selected desktop image will be deployed to the VOI clients in the desktop pool for users. You can create a desktop image through manually creation or import.
Create an image pool: Create the path for storing an image. When publishing a desktop image, you must select the image pool path.
Upload a tool image: Upload the tool images needed during the process of building an image source VM. You can mount a tool image to an image source VM.
Create a VDI image source VM/Create a VDI image source VM based on an OVF file/Create a VDI image source VM based on a VHD file: Create an image source VM, which is a template for publishing a desktop image. The operating system, drivers, and other needed software products must be installed in the VDI image source VM. A VDI image source VM can be newly created or created based on an OVF or VHD file.
Build a VDI image source VM: In a VDI image source VM, install the operating system, application software, and VdiAgent, and optimize the system services.
Publish a VDI desktop image/Import a VDI desktop image: Publish a VDI image source VM completely built as a VDI desktop image through cloning or conversion. Additionally, you can import VDI desktop images.
Apply a VDI desktop image.
Among the desktop image parameters in the Configuration step for creating a VDI desktop pool, select the desktop image to apply. For more information, see "Create a VDI desktop pool" in desktop pool management.
On the page for editing an existing VDI desktop pool, among the desktop image parameters in the Configuration step, select the desktop image to apply. For more information, see "Manage a VDI desktop pool" in desktop pool management.
Manage a VDI image source VM: Manage the software/hardware configuration, lifecycle, and snapshot for image source VMs.
Manage VDI desktop images: Edit, delete, deploy, download, and distribute VDI desktop images.
Create an image pool: Create the path for storing an image. When publishing a desktop image, you must select the image pool path.
Upload a tool image: Upload the tool images needed during the process of building an image source VM. You can mount a tool image to an image source VM.
Create an IDV image source VM/Create an IDV image source VM based on a VHD file: Create an image source VM, which is a template for publishing a desktop image. The operating system, drivers, and other needed software products must be installed in the IDV image source VM. You can create an IDV image source VM based on a VHD file.
Build an IDV image source VM: For an IDV image source VM, install the operating system, drivers, and needed application software, and optimize the system.
Publish an IDV desktop image/Import an IDV desktop image: Publish an IDV image source VM completely built as an IDV desktop image through cloning or conversion. Additionally, you can import IDV desktop images.
Apply an IDV desktop image.
Among the desktop image parameters in the Configuration step for creating an IDV desktop pool, select the desktop image to apply. For more information, see "Create an IDV desktop pool" in desktop pool management.
On the page for editing an existing IDV desktop pool, among the desktop image parameters in the Configuration step, select the desktop image to apply. For more information, see "Manage an IDV desktop pool" in desktop pool management.
Manage an IDV image source VM: Manage the software/hardware configuration, lifecycle, and snapshot for image source VMs.
Manage IDV desktop images: Edit, delete, and download IDV desktop images.
Create an image pool: Create the path for storing an image. When publishing a desktop image, you must select the image pool path.
Upload a tool image: Upload the tool images needed during the process of building an image source VM. You can mount a tool image to an image source VM.
Create a VOI image source VM: Create an image source VM, which is a template for publishing a desktop image. The operating system, drivers, and other needed software products must be installed in the VOI image source VM.
Build a VOI image source VM: For a VOI image source VM, install the operating system, drivers, and needed application software, and optimize the system.
Publish a VOI desktop image/Import a VOI desktop image: Publish a VOI image source VM completely built as a VOI desktop image through cloning or conversion. Additionally, you can import VOI desktop images.
Apply a VOI desktop image.
Among the desktop image parameters in the Configuration step for creating a VOI desktop pool, select the desktop image to apply. For more information, see "Create a VOI desktop pool" in desktop pool management.
On the page for editing an existing VOI desktop pool, among the desktop image parameters in the Configuration step, select the desktop image to apply. For more information, see "Manage a VOI desktop pool" in desktop pool management.
Manage a VOI image source VM: Manage the software/hardware configuration, lifecycle, and snapshot for image source VMs.
Manage VOI desktop images: Edit, delete, and download VOI desktop images.
Make sure you have performed the following tasks in Space Console:
Add infrastructure resources including hosts and clusters.
Make sure the image pool path has sufficient space.
Upload the needed ISO system images to Space Console. For more information, see "Create a system image."
ARM hosts do not support IDV or VOI desktop images in the current software version.
