A desktop image can be published through cloning an image source VM or converting an image source VM. A published desktop image can be distributed to the VOI endpoints in a desktop pool.
After an image source VM is cloned as a desktop image, the image source VM is still retained and can still be edited.
From the left navigation pane, select Images.
Click the Image Source VMs tab.
Click Clone in the Actions column for an image source VM.
In the dialog box that opens, enter the name of the desktop image to publish, select the storage path for the desktop image, and click OK to clone the image source VM as a desktop image.
Name: Name of the published desktop image.
File Type: File type of the published desktop image. Options include QCOW2 and VHD.
If the desktop image is used for TCI, Select QCOW2.
If the desktop image is used for VOI, select the file type as follows:
If the operating system of the desktop image is Linux, select QCOW2.
If the operating system of the desktop image is Windows, select VHD.
Image Pool: Path where the desktop image is to be stored.
Configure: VOI configuration that applies to the desktop image. Options include Dedicated and General.
Dedicated: System-default VOI configuration or a self-defined VOI configuration defined in Flavors.
General: Suitable for different endpoint configurations or non-official scenarios.
Create Snapshot After Cloning: With this feature enabled, a snapshot is automatically created for the image source VM after it is cloned. Snapshot is a temporary disaster recovery solution. When the image file of a VM is damaged or deleted by mistake, the snapshot data will also be lost. For long-term use, back up VMs as a best practice.
Snapshot Name: Name of the snapshot created for the image source VM. This field can be configured only when Create Snapshot After Cloning is enabled.
After an image source VM is converted to a desktop image, the image source VM is deleted.

In the dialog box that opens, enter the name of the desktop image to publish, select the storage pool for the desktop image, and click OK to convert the image source VM to a desktop image.
