Manage a VOI desktop pool

The following information describes the tasks to manage a VOI desktop pool. You can manage a VOI desktop pool from multiple pages. The following tasks are performed from the desktop pool details page.

Edit a desktop pool

 

A VOI client does not download the desktop image newly bound to a desktop pool if the MD5 checksum for the desktop image is the same as that for a desktop image saved on the local endpoint. Two image files are identical if they have the same MD5 checksum.

 

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click Edit on the toolbar above the tabs.

  1. Edit the desktop pool configuration, and then click Finish.

Delete a desktop pool

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click Delete on the toolbar above the tabs.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Enable or disable automatic software driver installation for desktop pools

With this feature enabled for a desktop pool, desktops in the desktop pool will automatically install the drivers on the Applications > Application Center > Drivers page and applications on the Applications > Application Center > App Store page if users open the app store on the desktops.

 

  • To install drivers and applications automatically, you must also enable automatic installation for the drivers and applications on the Applications > Application Center > Drivers page and Applications > Application Center > App Store page.

  • If you enable or disable automatic software driver installation, the operation takes effect after the desktops restart.

 

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Enable or disable automatic software driver installation:

Enable or disable restoration point creation for desktops

This task is used for enabling or disabling restoration point creation for desktops in a desktop pool. In restoration point creation mode, a desktop uses the point of time before restoration point creation is disabled as the desktop restoration point. If you configure Restoration Mode as Full Restore or System Restore , a desktop will be restored to the restoration point after it restarts.

Procedure

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Perform the following tasks:

Access a desktop from its console

To help an online VOI desktop user resolve desktop issues, you can access that desktop from its console.

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. Click Console in the Actions column for a desktop.

  1. Perform the following operations as needed in the console:

Start clients

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. Start VOI clients:

Shut down clients

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. Shut down VOI clients:

Restart clients

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. Restart VOI clients:

Remove clients

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. Remove VOI clients:

Configure desktop monitoring settings

You can configure desktop monitoring settings on a per-client basis. To view desktop summary and performance monitoring data for a VOI client on its details page, you must enable the client to report monitoring data.

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. Click More in the Actions column for a client, and then select Set Monitor.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, configure desktop monitoring settings:

Clear desktop monitoring data

The system displays desktop summary and performance monitoring data for a VOI client if you enable that client to report monitoring data. To remove history desktop monitoring data for that client and view only new monitoring data, perform this task.

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. Select one or multiple clients from the client list, click More on top of the list, and then select Clear Monitoring Data.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Collect logs

Perform this task to collect Agent logs from running desktops with VoiAgent installed.

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. Click More in the Actions column for a VOI client, and then select Collect Logs.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

View detailed desktop information for a VOI client

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktop Pools & Groups.

  1. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  1. Click the name of a VOI desktop pool.

  1. Click the VOI Client List tab.

  1. In the client list, click the name of a client.

The client details page opens. On the page, you can obtain basic information, summary data, performance data, and process data about the client. On the page, you can perform various client operations, including startup, restart, shutdown, removal from the desktop pool, and monitoring setup.

 

To view desktop summary and performance data for a VOI client, you must enable that VOI client to report monitoring data.
