H3C Secures the Leading Position in China’s HCI Market for the Fourth Consecutive Year: IDC Report

    18-07-2023

Global market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) recently released the "China Software-defined Storage and Hyper-converged Infrastructure (HCI) Systems Market Quarterly Tracking Report, 2023Q1". According to the report, H3C maintained its leading position in China's HCI market with a market share of 18.6%. This marks the fourth consecutive year that H3C has held the top spot in the market. This outstanding achievement is attributed to H3C's continuous innovation in the underlying technology architecture and its constant pursuit of product evolution.

Three major architectural innovations lead to all-dimensional upgrade of HCI systems

Establishing a solid foundation for HCI development requires nurturing underlying technology. H3C has made three major architectural innovations in technology architecture: Data Processing Unit (DPU) as a HCI system, cloud-native HCI kernel, and lossless storage. These innovations have enabled H3C to build a new generation of UIS 8.0 hyper-converged architecture, promoting an all-dimensional upgrade and innovation of hyper-convergence.

UIS 8.0 is based on H3C's next-generation self-developed Chixiao intelligent accelerator cards, which turns a single card into a complete HCI system. Combined with the built-in UIS software system, it achieves zero loss, reduces CPU load by 20%, and decreases network latency to the microsecond level through DPU acceleration, while improving storage Kernel Bypass IO performance by 100%.

The cloud-native HCI kernel supports the unified operation of containers, virtual machines, and bare metal servers, providing support for sandbox containers and multi-state businesses, significantly improving operational efficiency, stability, and scalability, and enhancing the adaptability of UIS 8.0 to various scenarios. Compared to distributed storage systems, lossless storage reduces costs by more than 70% and doubles IOPS performance, ensuring data reliability, performance, and low latency even in extreme conditions.

Product evolution: the next-generation HCI systems to debut soon

H3C is advancing the development of HCI systems by innovating the underlying technology architecture. The upcoming release of the UIS 2000 G6 this Q3 marks an evolution in aspects such as product design, performance capabilities, application scenarios, and industry support, making its compelling advantages worth looking forward to.

A unique product form in the industry: The H3C UIS 2000 G6 features a top-down two-node layout design that sets it apart from traditional hyperconverged systems, establishing a unique product form. The two nodes can operate independently with separate power supply and are capable of single-node operation, while enabling fault detection and switching between nodes to ensure high system stability and reliability, thereby facilitating uninterrupted service.

More powerful overall performance: A single node supports up to 24th generation Intel® Xeon® processors with a maximum frequency of 3.6GHz and a maximum of 32 cores, providing more options for different scenarios. Additionally, a single node can accommodate up to 32 DDR5 memory slots, meeting higher performance requirements. The independent power supply design for each node can effectively handle heavy loads from high-performance components, further boosting the overall system performance.

More flexible application configuration: Each node can support two OCP 3.0 network cards, freeing up PCIe slots and meeting strong expansion requirements. Along with this, the system also supports two PCIe slots per node, compatible with various types of cards such as GPU, RAID, network, or HBA cards, suitable for a wider range of usage scenarios.

More diverse application scenarios: The UIS 2000 G6 is versatile and suitable for various applications such as digital workspaces, cloud data centers, and intelligent applications. It boosts desktop carrying capacity by over 42% in all digital workspaces. In cloud data centers, it raises performance by an average of 13% with similar configurations and hard disk deployment. In addition, small IO random read and write performance also see significant improvements up to 35% and 17%, respectively.

More comprehensive industry support: The UIS 2000 G6 addresses the array of intelligent functions and cloud demands spanning industries such as transportation, enterprises, healthcare, education, and energy. For instance, in the transportation industry, the UIS 2000 G6 can provide infrastructure services for unmanned parking lots, subway stations, and port terminals, as well as carry business systems such as lane and gantry toll systems, intelligent stations, and port material management systems. For hospitals, the UIS 2000 G6 can support the construction of data centers of all sizes, enable business cloud transformation, and provide disaster recovery sites and medical cloud desktop scenarios. In education, it accommodates traditional business scenarios such as school website clusters, campus archives management, and office OA, as well as teaching cloud desktop scenarios and campus cloud scenarios.

Given the changes and new situations brought about by the AIGC era, H3C recognizes the need to adapt and embrace this change. By adhering to the strategy of "Dedication, For A Smarter Future" and the "Cloud & AI Native" strategy, H3C will continue to lead in the evolution of underlying technologies and product forms for HCI systems. H3C remains committed to assisting the digital transformation of all industries through intelligent and simplified deployment and accelerated migration to cloud.
