Background

In February 2019, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council issued China's Education Modernization 2035, requiring all regions and departments to conscientiously construct the future campus environment to raise the level of campus intelligence.

The application of digital technologies such as IoT, cloud computing and big data in education sector will reshape the teaching and management modes of higher education. The management of student apartments is one of the important tasks in the construction of smart campuses. The smart management of student apartments through digital technology has become a new direction in the industry.

Pain points

Colleges and universities are characterized by "large number of people, large number of rooms, and large liquidity". Traditional student apartment scene management has the following issues:

* Inefficiency: When students arrive at/leave school, it will require much work to distribute and retrieve keys.

* Unsafety: Loss and duplication of keys may cause theft of property and other safety accidents, and the access records cannot be verified.

* High cost: It requires a large amount of labor to manage and inspect the door locks, and change lock cylinders.

* Great pressure: Students return to dormitory late or do not return to dormitory at night frequently, causing a great workload of manual check.

Overview

H3C released a campus IoT solution based on Digital Brain Project according to the requirements of colleges and universities and industry trends. The whole solution consists of "smart digital platform" and partner terminal & application.

In terms of digital infrastructure, enterprise-class broadband wireless Wi-Fi 6 and IoT narrowband wireless LoRa are integrated to build a broadband-narrowband integrated wireless network for the campus. In terms of service platform, with oasis IoT platform as the core, the unified IoT data collection in the campus is integrated with WLAN network smart O&M and campus IoT applications to build an integrated platform.

In view of the issues in the management of student apartment, H3C, together with its partners, launched the smart door lock solution based on the overall architecture of campus IoT solution.

Networking of campus IoT smart door lock solution

The whole solution consists of LoRa smart door lock, IoT network infrastructure, oasis IoT platform and smart door lock management application.

For the deployment of LoRa smart door lock in the student apartment, the LoRa network can be deployed independently or the LoRa module can be expanded based on the Wi-Fi 6 wireless AP product to connect the lock to LoRa. The smart door lock supports six unlocking modes, such as campus card and fingerprint. The students' door unlocking records are uploaded in real time.

The smart door lock management application based on oasis IoT platform can uniformly manage the door lock, and authorize students online to unlock the door through campus card or fingerprint, to eliminate the batch management of mechanical door keys. At the same time, the unlocking data of students can be collected in real time, to perform security statistics on students' returning to dormitory or late returning status.
