Configure shared storage for a cluster

About shared storage

Shared storage provides shared file services by using file system or RBD storage pools.

You must deploy shared storage if you want to provide any services that require live migration of VMs, including HA, and DRS. The use of shared storage accelerates VM migration, because VMs can be moved around the cluster without the need to move storage resources.

Configuration workflow

  1. Configure shared file systems or RBD storage—See "Configure shared file systems" and "Configure RBD storage."

  2. Add shared storage—Add shared storage based on a shared file system or RBD storage.

  3. Enable shared storage—Enable shared storage for a cluster or enable a storage pool for a host. For more information, see "Manage shared storage."

  4. Attach hosts to shared storage.

  5. Manage shared storage.

Prerequisites

Make sure hosts to be attached with shared storage exist.
