The OLT is deployed in the central equipment room. ET704-B-L is directly placed at home to provide connections for users through Ethernet interfaces. The OLT can be connected to multiple ET704-B-L through an optical splitter to provide point-to-multipoint connections.

To avoid device damage or bodily injury, observe the following precautions:
l Before installation, check that all components in the ET704-B-L package are intact and read related instructions carefully.
l Make sure the EPON service is enabled.
l Install the ET704-B-L in a dry, well-ventilated place.
l In the case of desk-mounting, make sure the desk is sturdy and well grounded. In the case of wall-mounting, fix the ET704-B-L and the power adapter to prevent a falloff.
l Always use the power adapter shipped with the ET704-B-L to connect the ET704-B-L.
l Keep the ET704-B-L far away from high power radio stations, radar, and high-frequency devices working in high currents. If necessary, adopt electromagnetic shielding.
l Make sure sufficient space is reserved around the intake and exhaust vents on the ET704-B-L chassis for heat dissipation.
l Do not open the cover of the ET704-B-L when it is operating. If necessary, do that under the guidance of professional maintenance personnel after disconnecting the power supply to the ET704-B-L.
l Unplug the power plug before cleaning the ET704-B-L. Do not clean the ET704-B-L with a wet cloth or any liquid.
& Note:
You need to ask professional personnel to route optical fiber in the ET704-B-L.
Follow these steps to connect a fiber:
1) Remove the five screws from the back cover of the ET704-B-L and keep them in a safe place and take off the back cover (see Figure 2-1 and Figure 2-2).
Figure 2-1 Remove the screws from the back cover of the ET704-B-L
Figure 2-2 Internal structure of the ET704-B-L
2) Remove the two screws that are used for fastening the fiber cable clip, put the operator’s fiber cable through the fiber cable entry, and retighten the screws (see Figure 2-3 and Figure 2-4).
& Note:
Both sides of the fiber cable clip can be used. You can determine which side to use according to the thickness of the fiber cable.
Figure 2-3 Remove the screws that fasten the fiber cable clip
Figure 2-4 Put the fiber cable through the fiber entry
3) Peel off the outer layer of the fiber cable, draw out a fiber, route it around the fiber management tray to a fiber splicing point, and peel off the outer layer of the optical fiber (see Figure 2-5).
& Note:
There are two fiber splicing points in the ET704-B-L. You can select one (for example, the right one) according to the actual condition.
Figure 2-5 Route the optical fiber in the ET704-B-L
4) Peel off the outer layer at the end of the tail fiber, draw out the core and splice the two fiber core in the tube shipped with the ET704-B-L, and fix them in the groove of the fiber splicing point; route the tail fiber around the fiber management tray to the tail fiber interface (see Figure 2-6).
Caution:
l Determine in advance that the tail fiber is long enough to reach the fiber splicing point.
l Make sure that the tail fiber connector is well inserted into the tail fiber interface.
Figure 2-6 Splice the two fiber core and route the tail fiber
5) Put the back cover on the ET704-B-L and fix it with the previously removed five screws.
You can install the ET704-B-L on a vertical wall by using flathead screws and the wall-mounting holes on the bottom of the chassis.
Caution:
l Make sure that the pan-head screws are secure and reliable.
l The installation height of the ET704-B-L is subject to where you can conveniently observe the LEDs.
l Be sure to fix the power adapter. Do not directly hang it on the ET704-B-L in case that it falls off the ET704-B-L.
Figure 2-7 and Figure 2-8 show the recommended screw sizes and anchor sizes (in mm) for installation, respectively.
Figure 2-7 Recommended screw sizes

Figure 2-8 Recommended anchor sizes
Follow these steps to mount the ET704-B-L on a wall:
& Note:
l The ET704-B-L can be mounted on a wall by drilling two horizontal or vertical holes. The following describes how to mount the ET704-B-L on a wall by drilling two horizontal holes.
l The diameter and depth of the two holes depend on the sizes of the anchor and screws. The anchor edges should be flush with the wall surface after the anchors are put into the holes, and the screws can be fastened on the wall after they are screwed into the anchors.
l For the distance between the two holes, refer to Technical Specifications.
1) As shown in Figure 2-9, drill two holes with a diameter of 5 mm and a distance of 90 mm and keep the line between the two holes horizontal.
2) Put the anchors into the holes, with the edges flush with the wall surface.
3) As shown in Figure 2-9, tighten the screws into the anchors, with a distance of no less than 2.5 mm between the bottom of the screw head and the anchor edge to hang the ET704-B-L firmly on the screws.
Figure 2-9 Drill holes and install anchors and screws
4) Align the two holes on the bottom of the ET704-B-L chassis with the screws and hang the ET704-B-L on the screws.
Place the ET704-B-L on a clean, flat desk. When mounting the ET704-B-L on a desk, make sure that:
l The desk is steady.
l A clearance of 10 cm (3.94 in) around the ET704-B-L is reserved for heat dissipation.
Caution:
The input voltage range of the power adapter is 100V AC to 240V AC.
Figure 2-10 Connect the power adapter
1) Connect the output end of the supplied power adapter to the power interface on the ET704-B-L.
2) Plug one end of the power cable into the input end of the power adapter.
3) Plug the other end of the power cable into the power outlet.
& Note:
After connecting the power adapter, check whether the power LED is on. If the power LED is off, check the connection of the power adapter.
Figure 2-11 Connect an Ethernet cable
1) Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to one of the 10/100BASE-T interfaces on the ET704-B-L.
2) Connect the other end to the RJ-45 interface on the peer device.
