You can restore a VM to UIS or VMware from a backup file. An external VM is not overwritten when it is restored. Instead, a new VM is created.
To create a restoration task:
On the top navigation bar, click VMs.
From the left navigation pane, select External VMs > Backup Management.
Click the Backup Tasks tab.
Configure the parameters as described in "Parameters."
Click Finish.
Only the Restore to New VM option is available.
VM Name: Enter a name for the VM to create.
Description: Enter a description. This parameter is available only when the VM is restored to UIS.
Host: Select a host to run the new VM. This parameter is available only when the VM is restored to UIS.
Provisioning: Select a storage volume provision mode. This parameter is available only when the VM is restored to UIS. You can edit this parameter for a VM only when the VM is in shutdown state, uses a single-level image file as the disk, and does not have snapshots.
Thin: Allocates only as much storage space as the storage volume needs for its initial operations when the storage volume is created. If the storage volume needs more storage space later, the system allocates as much storage space as the volume would require based on the specified maximum storage size.
Delay Zeroed: Allocates the specified maximum storage size to the storage volume when the storage volume is created. Data remaining on the physical device is not erased during creation, but is zeroed out on first write from the VM. NFS storage pools do not support this mode.
Zeroed: Allocates the specified maximum storage size to the storage volume when the storage volume is created. Data remaining on the physical device is zeroed out during creation. It might take a longer time to create storage volumes in this format than to create storage volumes of other formats.
vCenter: Select an incorporated vCenter to accommodate the new VM. This parameter is available only when the VM is restored to VMware.
Data Center: Select the target data center. This parameter is available only when the VM is restored to VMware.
Host: Select a host to run the new VM. This parameter is available only when the VM is restored to VMware.
Compatibility: Select a compatible version for the new VM according to the vCenter, data center, and host you have selected. This parameter is available only when the VM is restored to VMware.
Target Storage File: Specify the target storage file name for the new VM. This parameter is available only when the VM is restored to UIS.
Target Storage Pool: Select a storage pool for the new VM according to the restoration destination.
For a VM restored to VMware, configure its network parameters according to those of the source VM.
For a VM restored to UIS, configure the following parameters:
VM MAC: Configure the MAC address of the new VM. It is the MAC address of the source VM by default.
vSwitch: Select a vSwitch for the new VM.
Port Profile/Port Group: Select a port profile/port group for the new VM.
Network Parameters: Configure the network parameters as described in "Edit a VM."
Virtual Firewall: Select a virtual firewall for the new VM.
Max Restoration Speed: Specify a maximum restoration speed. The restoration speed is not limited if the default value 0 is used or this field is empty.
