Email server

This help contains the following topics:

Introduction

If you want to output logs through email, you must configure an email server. Then, logs can be sent to email recipients.

vSystem support information

Support of non-default vSystems for this feature depends on the device model. This feature is available on the Web interface only if it is supported.

Restrictions and guidelines

The system has a default email server named mailsetting_default_parameter. You can only edit the default email server and cannot delete it. When you select outputting IPS logs or anti-virus logs through email, the system uses the default email server to send the emails.

Configure the email server

Prerequisites

Complete the following tasks before you configure this feature:

  • Assign IP addresses to interfaces on the Network > Interface Configuration > Interfaces page.

  • Configure routes on the Network > Routing page. Make sure the routes are available.

  • Create security zones on the Network > Security Zones page.

  • Add interfaces to security zones. You can add interfaces to a security zone on the Security Zones page or select a security zone for an interface on the Interfaces page.

  • Configure security policies to permit the target traffic on the Policies > Security Policies page.

Procedure

  1. Click the System tab.

  2. In the navigation pane, select Log Settings > Email Server.

  3. Click Create.

  4. Configure the email server settings.

    Email sending interval

Enter an interval for sending emails. The device caches the emails to be sent and sends them only when the interval expires.

    Max. emails per interval

Specify the maximum number of emails to be sent per interval.

If the maximum number is reached within the sending interval and more emails are generated to send, the device compares the severity levels of the new emails and the existing emails. If the severity level of a new email is higher than that of an existing cached email, the new one overwrites the most recent email with the lowest severity level.

The severity level of an email is the severity level of the matching IPS signature of the log.

When multiple service modules are operating concurrently, this setting takes effect separately on each service module.

    Language

Specify the language for emails. Options are English and Chinese.

  5. Click OK.

  6. To validate your settings, click Send Test Email to send a test email to the specified recipient.
