Manage remote USB devices

Remote USB device management enables you to manage all remote USB devices in a cluster. After a VM using a remote USB device is migrated to another host in the cluster, the VM can continue to use the remote USB device.

Restrictions and guidelines

Start a remote USB device

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Compute.

  2. From the left navigation pane, select Resource Navigation > All > Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name.

  3. Click More, and then select Remote USB Devices.

  4. Click the icon to update the remote USB device information.

  5. Click Start in the Actions column for the target remote USB device.

  6. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Suspend a remote USB device

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Compute.

  2. From the left navigation pane, select Resource Navigation > All > Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name.

  3. Click More, and then select Remote USB Devices.

  4. Click the icon to update the remote USB device information.

  5. Click Suspend in the Actions column for the target remote USB device.

  6. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Attach a remote USB device to VMs

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Compute.

  2. From the left navigation pane, select Resource Navigation > All > Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name.

  3. Click More, and then select Remote USB Devices.

  4. Click the icon to update the remote USB device information.

  5. Click More in the Actions column for the target remote USB device, and then select Attach to VMs.

  6. Select a controller type and the target VMs.

  7. Click OK.

Detach a remote USB device from VMs

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Compute.

  2. From the left navigation pane, select Resource Navigation > All > Resources > Host Pool Name > Cluster Name.

  3. Click More, and then select Remote USB Devices.

  4. Click the icon to update the remote USB device information.

  5. Click More in the Actions column for the target remote USB device, and then select Detach from VMs.

  6. Select the target VMs.

  7. Click OK.
