Introduction

A VIP client often requires high-priority protection, for example, a teacher client in a classroom. You can view information about online clients added to the VIP client group on the VIP client monitoring page of the cloud platform.

When the number of clients associated with a radio on an AP reaches the limit, the AP logs off clients in the order of non-VIP, level-2 VIP, and level-1 VIP to ensure that high-priority clients can come online first.

Operating mechanism

A client acts as a VIP client only after you add its MAC address to the VIP client list.

Rate limit

The level-2 VIP client rate limit or non VIP client rate limit that takes effect depends on your configuration.

Level-1 VIP clients are not rate limited.

The VIP client feature takes effect only when the client association location is on the AC.

You can add up to 128 level-1 VIP clients.

Configuration guide

Add a VIP client

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Configure > WLAN Optimization > VIP > VIP Clients.

  2. In the VIP Client Info area, click Add. In the dialog box that opens, add a VIP client. You can manually add a VIP client or select a VIP client from the online client list. If you choose to manually add a VIP client, enter the MAC address of the client, and then select a VIP level.

Configure rate limit settings

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Configure > WLAN Optimization > VIP > VIP Clients.

  2. In the Rate Limit area, click Click to set to configure client rate limit settings.

Configure report of client information

An AP reports information about VIP clients to the device, which reports the information to the cloud platform.

To configure report of client information:

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Configure > WLAN Optimization > VIP > VIP Clients.

  2. In the Client Info Report area, specify a report interval.
