This help contains the following topics:
To prevent aggressive use of bandwidth by some clients from affecting other clients, set a rate limit on clients. With client rate limiting configured, all clients can use the network services correctly.
Configure VIP rate limit for level-1, level-2, and non-VIP clients separately.
You can configure either of the following modes for client rate limiting:
Dynamic mode—Sets the total bandwidth shared by all clients. The rate limit for each client is the total rate divided by the number of online clients. For example, if the total rate is 10 Mbps and five clients are online, the rate limit for each client is 2 Mbps.
Static mode—Sets the bandwidth that can be used by each client. When the rate limit multiplied by the number of associated clients exceeds the available bandwidth provided by the AP, the clients might not get the set bandwidth.
The level-2 VIP client rate limit or non VIP client rate limit that takes effect depends on your configuration.
Level-1 VIP clients are not rate limited.
Level-2 VIP client rate limit:
If you configure both level-2 VIP client rate limit and radio-based client rate limit, the configuration that takes effect depends on the rate limit modes (static or dynamic).
If different rate limit modes are configured, level-2 VIP client rate limit takes effect.
If the static mode is configured, the smaller value takes effect. If the dynamic mode is configured, level-2 VIP client rate limit takes effect.
If you configure both level-2 VIP client rate limit and another rate limit method, the smaller value takes effect.
Non VIP client rate limit:
If a radio has associated VIP clients, the radio rate limits non-VIP clients. If no VIP clients exist, the radio does not rate limit non-VIP clients.
If you configure both VIP client rate limit and radio-based client rate limit, the configuration that takes effect depends on the rate limit modes (static or dynamic).
If different rate limit modes are configured, non VIP client rate limit takes effect.
If the static mode is configured, the smaller value takes effect. If the dynamic mode is configured, non VIP client rate limit takes effect.
If you configure both non-VIP client rate limit and another rate limit method, the smaller value takes effect.
Level-1 VIP clients are limited only by rate limit settings for level-1 VIP clients.
From the left navigation pane, select Configure > WLAN Optimization > Client Rate Limit > By VIP Client.
In the Level-2 Client Rate Limit area, set the inbound and outbound rates.
The system supports static and dynamic rate limit modes.
Static
This mode configures the same rate limit settings for all clients. The following uses inbound rate limit configuration as an example. Outbound rate limit configuration is the same.
Table-1 Static rate limit configuration parameters
Parameter | Description |
(Required.) Inbound CIR per Client | Rate limit value for each client. |
Dynamic
If dynamic rate limit is configured, the limited rate for a client is the total limited rate divided by the number of clients. The following uses inbound rate limit configuration as an example. Outbound rate limit configuration is the same.
Table-2 Dynamic rate limit configuration parameters
Parameter | Description |
(Required.) Inbound CIR for All Level-2 VIP Clients | Inbound CIR for all level-2 VIP clients. |
Min Dynamic Inbound CIR per Client | If the CIR for a wireless service divided by the total number of clients is smaller than the minimum CIR for each client, the minimum CIR takes effect for each client. |
Max Dynamic Inbound CIR per Client | If the CIR for a wireless service divided by the total number of clients is larger than the maximum CIR for each client, the maximum CIR takes effect for each client. |
Configure non-VIP client rate limit in the same way level-2 VIP client rate limit is configured. (Details not shown.)
