Deploy a VOI/TCI desktop pool

After you create a VOI/TCI desktop pool, you can use the desktop pool to deploy desktops and specify users that can use the deployed desktops. You can access the VOI/TCI desktop pool details page by using one of the following methods:

Add VOI/TCI clients to a VOI/TCIdesktop pool

  • To avoid errors, do not add endpoints with Learningspace clients installed to a VOI/TCI desktop pool in the office and education hybrid scenario.

  • A VOI/TCI client does not download the desktop image of a desktop pool if the MD5 checksum for the desktop image is the same as that for a desktop image saved on the local endpoint. Two image files are identical if they have the same MD5 checksum.

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktops.

  2. Click the name of the target VOI/TCI desktop pool in the desktop pool list.

  3. Click the VOI/TCI Client List tab.

  4. Click Select VOI/TCI Clients.

  5. Select Rename VOI/TCI Client as needed. This option is selected by default. With this feature configured, aliases of the VOI/TCI clients that join a desktop pool will be renamed in the format of the desktop prefix and a serial number. For example, if the desktop prefix is Voi, VOI/TCI clients will be renamed Voi-001, Voi-002, and so forth.

If you do not rename aliases of the VOI/TCI clients that join a desktop pool, the following issues might occur:

    • Aliases of the VOI/TCI clients in this desktop pool are not consecutive.

    • The alias of a newly added VOI/TCI client is not consistent with the computer name of the operating system.

    • The alias of a newly added IDV client is the same as that of an existing VOI/TCI client in the desktop pool.

  6. In the dialog box that opens, select the VOI/TCI clients to be added, and then click OK.

Authorize users to use VOI clients

  • You can manage policies for desktop pools, users, endpoints, or OUs on the policy group management page. For more information, see "Policy groups."

  • To avoid errors, do not authorize teacher users or student users to use the VOI/TCI clients in an office and education hybrid scenario.

  • For domain users that use desktops created based on a VOI/TCI desktop image, specify a Microsoft AD server as the DNS server on the VOI/TCI endpoints to enable automatic domain assignment for the domain users.

  • If trust domain configuration is enabled on the domain control server, specify the trust domain IP as the backup DNS server IP address. For more information about enabling trust domain configuration, see "Configure LDAP authentication."

About this task

If you create a VOI/TCI desktop pool for single-user or multi-user authorization, you must bind each VOI/TCI client with one user account or authorize users to share the clients in the desktop pool, respectively.

If you create the desktop pool for anonymous users, you do not need to configure authorization. Any users can log in to the VOI/TCI clients in the pool to access desktop services without providing a username and password.

Configure single-user authorization

Perform this task to bind each VOI/TCI client in a VOI/TCI desktop pool to one user if that pool uses single-user authorization.

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktops.

  2. Click the name of the target VOI/TCI desktop pool in the desktop pool list.

  3. Click the VOI/TCI Client List tab.

  4. Perform the following tasks:

    • To authorize a user to use a VOI/TCI client:

Click in the Authorized User Login Name column for a client. In the dialog box that opens, select a user, and then click OK.

    • To delete a user authorization:

Click in the Authorized User Login Name column for a client. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Configure multi-user authorization

Perform this task to authorize selected users or user groups to share the clients in a VOI/TCI desktop pool for desktop services if that pool uses multi-user authorization. When an authorized user logs in to an idle VOI/TCI client, the system automatically binds the user with that client.

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Desktops.

  2. Click the Desktop Pools tab.

  3. Click the name of the target VOI/TCI desktop pool in the desktop pool list.

  4. Click the Users tab.

  5. Perform the following tasks:

    • To preauthorize users or user groups:

Click Select Users or Select User Groups. In the dialog box that opens, select users or user groups, and then click OK.

    • To delete user or user group preauthorizations:

Select users or user groups, and then click Delete Authorizations. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

    • To recover user or user group preauthorizations:

Click Recover Authorizations. Select deleted preauthorized users, user groups, or endpoints, and then click OK.
