Teaching storage initialization

Perform this task to format an idle disk on a host, and then mount the disk to the local storage path /vms/learingspace. This task also allows you to mount the shared storage in the cluster to the local storage path /vms/learningspace. After mounting, new course storage pools will be created in this path by default, and the storage space in this path can be used when you create a new course VM or publishing courses. Subsequent new GlusterFS storage will be mounted to the /vms/learningspace/glusterfs path. ARM hosts do not support teaching storage initialization.

Create a local storage volume

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Data Center > Teaching Storage > Teaching Storage Initialization.

  2. Click Create.

  3. In the dialog box that opens, select the local disk storage type, and then click Next.

  4. Select a host pool, a storage cluster, and a host, and then click Next.

The configuration time increases with the number of hosts. To ensure successful host storage management, configure hosts in multiple bulks.

  5. Select a free disk and then click OK, enter CONFIRM (case-insensitive) in the dialog box that opens, and then click OK.

Create a shared storage volume

Before creating a shared storage, navigate to the Data Center > Virtualization > Cluster name page, click the Storage tab, and then add a shared storage of which target path is /vms/learningstorage and a host using the shared storage.

In a multi-cluster office-education hybrid scenario or multi-cluster education scenario, do not create teaching image pools of the shared storage type. If you do so, classes cannot be started in classrooms.

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Data Center > Teaching Storage > Teaching Storage Initialization.

  2. Click Create.

  3. In the dialog box that opens, select the shared storage type, and then click Next.

  4. Select a host pool, a storage cluster, and a host, and then click Next.

The configuration time increases with the number of hosts. To ensure successful host storage management, configure hosts in multiple bulks.

  5. Confirm shared storage information and then click OK. Enter CONFIRM (case-insensitive) in the dialog box that opens, and then click OK.

Delete a teaching storage volume

  1. From the left navigation tree, select Data Center > Teaching Storage > Teaching Storage Initialization.

  2. Click Delete in the Actions column for a teaching storage volume.

  3. Enter DELETE in the dialog box that opens, and then click OK.
