Application groups

An application group is a collection of published applications. You can use application groups to assign applications published by application servers attached to the same domain controller to designated users, user groups, or OUs.

Create an application group

Before you create application groups, configure application servers as described in "Application servers."

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Applications > Virtual Applications.

    The Application Groups tab opens.

  2. Click Create.

  3. Configure the parameters, and then click OK.

Parameters

Edit an application group

  1. From the left navigation pane, select A Applications > Virtual Applications.

    The Application Groups tab opens.

  2. Click Edit in the Actions column for the target application group.

  3. Edit the application group name and description as needed.

  4. Click OK.

Delete application groups

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Applications > Virtual Applications.

    The Application Groups tab opens.

  2. Perform either of the following tasks:

    • To delete multiple application groups, select the target application groups, and then click Delete above the application group list.

    • To delete a single application group, click Delete in the Actions column for the application group.

  3. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Publish applications

  1. From the left navigation pane, select Applications > Virtual Applications.

    The Application Groups tab opens.

  2. Select an application group, and then click Publish Applications.

The user type of the application group must be consistent with the authentication user type of the desktop pool of the selected application server.

  3. Select an application server and then select the applications you want to publish.

You can select application servers by host or by application server pool.

If Space Console fails to automatically obtain applications from the application server, perform the following tasks:

    1. Click Add Apps.

    2. Enter the application name, executable file path, and description (optional).

The application name cannot be the same as any other applications in the application group. The executable file path must be exactly the same as that on the application server.

    3. Click OK.

  4. Click Next to verify applications. The system will automatically check whether the applications selected in the previous step conflict with published applications in the application group.

During verification, you can click Edit in the Actions column for an application, edit the name, command parameter, and description (optional) settings, and then click OK.

    • If an application name fails the verification, edit the application name before performing consequent operations.

    • The command parameter refers to the paths of the files and webpage addresses and shared paths that can be opened through the executable file path on the application server. With an application assigned, the user can open the files or webpages associated with the command parameter by clicking the application name link on the Virtual Applications page of the client.

    • The webpage addresses can only be accessed by using IE11 or a Google browser. As a best practice, use IE11.

    • The same application server cannot publish both IE11 virtual applications and webpage addresses accessed by using IE11.

  5. After the application verification succeeds, click Next.

  6. To associate file types for applications, click Associate File Types in the Actions column for the target application. Then, select target file types, and then click Save.

    • If you do not associate a file type during the application publication, click More in the Actions column for the target application after the publication is completed, and then select Associate File Types.

    • After a file type is associated, you can open the corresponding type of file by double-clicking the file on the endpoint, instead of right-clicking the selected file and using a virtual application to open it.

    • The file type association feature is available only on Windows 10 endpoints. Windows 7 and Linux endpoints do not support this feature.

    • If multiple virtual applications are associated with the same file type, these applications will be ordered by name. By default, the system uses the application file whose name is at the top in alphabetical order when you double-click a local file.

    • After the disk mapping is disabled, the system pops up the "Failed to find the file." message when you use virtual applications to open the file.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Preview the configuration and then click OK.
