Create a bare metal instance

The NIC bonding, NIC quantity, and system disk settings configured in this section must be the same as those configured for the bare metal node. For other parameters, the most recent configuration takes effect, no matter whether they are configured in configuring a bare metal node or bare metal instance.

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Cloud Services, and then select Bare Metal from the Compute menu.

  1. Click Create.

You can create a bare metal instance only if a bare metal node in running state exists.

  1. Configure bare metal instance parameters as described in Table-1.

  1. Click OK.

Table-1 Configuring bare metal instance parameters

Parameter

Description

Organization

Select the organization to which the bare metal instance belongs. A system administrator can choose any organization. An organization administrator or user can only choose the current organization.

Owner

Select the owner of the bare metal instance. The owner must be an existing user in the system. A system administrator can select any user. An organization administrator can select a user only in its organization. A user can select only itself.

AZ

Select the AZ you created for providing compute resources to the bare metal instance.

Select an image, which will be deployed to the bare metal server.

Flavors & Storage

Select a bare metal instance type. For a general bare metal instance, configure the CPU, memory, and system disk. For a GPU-powered bare metal instance, configure the CPU, memory, system disk, and GPU. For more information, see "Manage bare metal flavors."

NICs

Select the number of NICs to be used by the bare metal instance.

NICs to Bond

Select the number of NICs for NIC bonding.

Configure Network

For a multitenant network, the IP address field is optional. You can enter both an IPv4 address and an IPv6 address. IPv6 addresses of SLAAC and stateless DHCPv6 do not support manual assignment. For a flat network, you must enter an IPv4 address for the management network. For a service network, the IP address field is required and you can enter both an IPv4 address and IPv6 address.

Name

Specify a name for the bare metal instance.

Tenancy

Select a tenancy for the bare metal instance. When the tenancy expires, the system stops the instance or sends an email as configured. The system does not send an email when stopping a bare metal instance. If you do not renew the tenancy, you cannot start the instance. For more information about how to renew the tenancy for a bare metal instance, see "Renew the tenancy for a bare metal instance."

Password

Specify the authentication method for logging in to a bare metal instance.

  • Set—Manually set a password.

  • Key Authentication—Select key authentication for a cloud Unix or Linux operating system. Private keys in a key pair are kept by users, and the system saves and manages only public keys. Select a key pair from the SSH Key Pairs list.

  • Image Default Password—Use the password set when creating an image.
