Before cloning a VM as a template, make sure a template storage path has been configured. For more information about template storage, see "Image pools."
You cannot create a VM template from a VM that has a floppy disk drive mounted.
Before cloning a VM to a template, change its IP addressing mode to DHCP. If you do not do this, the NIC of a VM deployed through the VM template will keep the static IP of the source VM.
A VM that has a floppy disk drive mounted cannot be exported as an OVF template, cloned or converted to a template.
Before you clone a Linux VM, delete the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file from the Linux OS. If you do not delete this file, VMs deployed through the template cannot find the eth0 NIC.
Do not use the /usr directory as an independent partition when cloning a Kylin VM to a template. If you use the directory, OS configuration for a VM deployed through the VM template will fail.
When you clone a Linux VM as a template, clear configuration for its NICs. If you fail to do so, network parameter modifications will not take effect on the VMs deployed from that template.
From the left navigation pane, select Data Center >Virtualization > Cluster name > Host name > VM name.
Click the Clone to Template tab.
Enter the template name and description, and then select a directory to store the template.
