Build a VOI course

A VOI course is available for classes after it is built.

Restrictions and guidelines

Major optimizations have been made to the agent component in E1006 and later versions. As a best practice, rebuild VOI courses after you upgrade the system to E1006 or later. If you do not rebuild the courses, newly added VOI course functions (such as editing courses) will be unavailable.

Procedure

  1. During the software installation procedure or on the course console, install an operating system for the course (use Windows 10 as an example):

The Windows operating system installation procedure might vary by version. This section uses Windows 10 as an example. Install your Windows operating system as needed.

  1. After opening the console for an image source VM, press any key as prompted by Press any key to boot from CD or DVD that appears when the image source VM is started. Then, the image source VM is started in UEFI mode. Otherwise, the loaded disk will be unavailable when the system prompts the Where do you want to install Windows? message.

If you miss the prompt message, click Restart on top of the console.

This step is required only when the boot firmware is UEFI.

  1. After VM startup, the system enters the Windows setup screen. Specify your language and other preferences, click Next, and then click Install Now.

  1. Accept the license agreement, and select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).

  1. Click Load driver when Where do you want to install Windows? is prompted. VMs use Virtio drivers. The drivers are not displayed when you install the operating system for the VM. You must load drivers and install the operating system on a disk.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

  1. In the dialog box that opens, select all drivers by using the Ctrl or Shift key, and then click Next.

  1. Partition the disk as needed when the Where do you want to install Windows? prompt is displayed, and then click Next. Disk partition is required if you need multiple disks when installing the operating system.

  1. After the installation is complete, configure basic system settings such as region, keyboard layout, network, and account settings.

On the Settings > Accounts > Sign in with Microsoft screen, click Domain join instead in the lower left corner.

  1. Create a user account used to enter the desktop after system installation. After completing system setup, enter the Windows desktop.

The user account in this example is only used to enter the desktop after installation. You must switch to an administrator account after entering the desktop. Further system optimizations also require using the administrator account.

  1. Switch to the administrator account:

  1. Press shortcut keys Win + X, and then click the Computer Management option.

  1. Click Local Users and Groups. Right-click Administrator, select Set Password, right-click Administrator, and then select Properties.

  1. In the administrator properties window, clear the Account is Disabled option to enable the administrator account, and then click OK.

  1. Sign out and then sign in as the administrator to enter the system desktop.

  1. Press shortcut keys Win + X. In the Local Users and Groups window, right-click the created user account, and then click Delete.

  1. Install software: Install VOI student client and other required software, such as office software, Sogou input software, and media players.

·          The VOI course-related software can be obtained by using the Attach Shared Disk method. Alternatively, upload software packages to the course by using the file sharing feature of Windows. Make sure the PC that shares the specific folder is on the same network as the VM, and the VM can access the local network of the PC.

·          To use the quiz, score statistics, and game functions, install Chrome browser (Chrome 45 or higher as a best practice) in the course image. For more information, see the teacher client user manual in the education scenario.

  1. Select Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center, click Ethernet. In the dialog box that opens, click Properties. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties. In the dialog box that opens, configure IP settings as needed. Make sure the configured IP address can reach the PC where the sharing files reside. Then, click OK.

  1. Create a folder on the PC, and add the Learningspace_App client installation package and required software to the folder. Right-click on the folder, and select Give access to > Specific people. In the Choose people to share with dialog box, click the  icon next to the Add button, select Everyone, click Add, and then click Share.

  1. Press shortcut keys Win + R on the course VM to open the Run dialog box. Enter double backslash and the IP address of the NIC attached to the network where the local PC and VM reside, and then click OK to open the shared folder. Then copy the Learningspace_App client installation package and other required software to the course VM. For security purposes, cancel sharing after the sharing is complete.

  1. Copy Learningspace_App from the shared disk and then decompress it. Run the application, and then click OK in the language selection dialog box that opens.

  1. Select the VOI endpoint type, select the student client type, and then click Next.

  1. Select the installation path, and then click Install.

You can install the Learningspace client only on the C drive for a Windows endpoint.

  1. After the installation is complete, install other required software.

  1. Configure and optimize system services.

After basic VM settings are complete, you must optimize the VM to improve VM operation speed and user experience for cloud desktop connection.

  1. Click Install Template Tool, and then select Mount H3CoptTools.

  1. Enter the CD-ROM, and run the H3COptTools application program.

  1. Select a locale.

  1. Select the education scenario template as the optimization scenario and click Start Scanning.

  1. After the scan finishes, click OK. Select optimization items, and click Optimize Now.

  1. In the VoiAgent installation dialog box, click Next.

  1. In the communication environment settings dialog box, enter the host IP address or domain name (an FQDN) for the system management node, use the default port number, and then click Next.

  1. Select the target folder for installing VoiAgent, and then click Install.

  1. After the VoiAgent installation is complete, click Finish.

  1. Select a disk for customizing a user profile.

  1. In the CloudDiskClient installation wizard that opens, select the installation path and click Install. After the installation is completed, click Finish.

  1. In the Cloud Driver: License Agreement dialog box that opens, click I accept. In the Cloud driver: installation options dialog box that opens, select the endpoint type corresponding to the course, and click Install. After the installation is complete, click Close.

  1. After performing optimization, restart the operating system to validate the installed software and driver.

  1. After you log in to the operating system, the student client is displayed. Click Return to Local Host and enter password Password@1234 to return to the system desktop.

  1. Finish and publish the VOI course: After system service configuration and optimization, shut down the course operating system. Then, click Finish & Release on the software installation page or click Publish under the course on the course list page, and select the storage path for the course image.

·          When you publish a course, you can select a storage path created on the Data Center > Teaching Storage > GlusterFS Settings page or Data Center > Teaching Storage > Course Storage Pool Settings page.

·          After building a VOI C200V endpoint course in Space Console, create a level-2 image at the endpoint side, and install graphics card driver for the image.

·          The VOI courses of other endpoints be used correctly only after you create a level-2 image at the endpoint side.
