Heterogeneous migration configuration guide

About heterogeneous migration

Heterogeneous migration allows migration of disk data on physical x86 servers, VMs managed by CAS CVM, and VMs managed by another platform to destination VMs on CAS CVM. It requires client installation on the source device.

This document uses an environment shown in Figure-1 as an example.

Restrictions and guidelines

Item

Restriction

Capacity limit on a volume or disk

  • The maximum capacity cannot exceed 128 TB.

  • As a best practice, make sure a disk or volume does not exceed 32 TB if you perform live migration.

Incremental data limit

The maximum data change cannot exceed 1 TB in an incremental backup or migration interval.

Task

Description

Prepare a source device

Download an installation package

Download a migration client from CVM to a source device (physical server or VM).

Install the migration client

Install the migration client and connect the source device to CVM. Then, the migration client reports the status of the source device to CVM.

Prepare a destination VM

Obtain the PE image

Mount the PE image to the destination VM

Create a destination VM

Configure TargetClient

Configure the TargetClient, and connect TargetClient to CVM. Then, the TargetClient reports the status of the destination VM to CVM.

Perform a migration

Create a migration task

Create and start a migration task. The migration client receives the migration command and starts migrating the system disk and data disk.

Configure a driver

Migrate system disks and data disks.

Access the destination VM
