1 Overview

To improve the server performance, iMC uses the Installation and Deployment model. iMC installation is to copy the iMC installation files to the master server. iMC deployment is to decompress the installation package and create a database script on the master server or slave servers as needed. The components of iMC are operational only after they are deployed.

You can deploy iMC in one of the following ways:

l              Centralized deployment: All iMC components are deployed on the same server.

l              Distributed deployment: The basic iMC components are deployed on the master server, and other iMC components are deployed on the master server and slave servers.

iMC supports both embedded and separate databases:

l              Embedded iMC database: To manage a small number of devices for a small- and medium-sized enterprise, use the iMC Standard edition that has an embedded SQL Server 2008 R2 Express database.

l              Separate database: To manage a large number of devices for a large-sized enterprise, use the iMC Standard or Professional edition. They both support a separate SQL Server, or Oracle database.

A separate database supports the following installation methods:

A component and its database server are on the same iMC server, and all iMC servers are installed with the database servers of the same version.

A component and its database server are not on the same iMC server.

1) All components use the database on a separate database server.

2) A component uses the database server on another server.

Video Overview

This video set comprises FAQ and four examples, which use iMC PLAT, NTA, UAM, and EAD as examples to show how to install and deploy iMC.

Description

01-Centralized iMC Deployment Example

This example uses iMC PLAT as an example to describe how to deploy iMC in centralized mode. It shows the following contents:

l      Install the iMC PLAT on the server.

l      Deploy necessary components on the server.

l      Start iMC from the server, and use a web browser to access iMC.

02-Distributed iMC (with Integrated Database) Deployment Example

This example describes how to deploy the iMC PLAT and iMC NTA with integrated database. It shows the following contents:

l      Install the iMC PLAT on the master server.

l      Install the iMC NTA and deploy necessary components on the master server.

l      Install the iMC deployment monitoring agent and deploy the NTA and necessary components on the slave server.

l      Start iMC from the master server, and use a web browser to access iMC.

03-Distributed iMC (with Separate Database) Deployment Example

This example describes how to deploy the iMC PLAT and iMC NTA with separate database.

04-UAM and EAD Deployment Example

This example describes how to deploy the iMC PLAT, UAM, and EAD with an integrated database. It shows the following contents:

l      Install the iMC PLAT on the master server.

l      Install the iMC UAM and EAD, and deploy necessary components on the master server.

l      Install the iMC deployment monitoring agent and deploy the UAM and EAD components except Portal Web Server and Portal Proxy, Portal Server, and User SelfService on slave server A.

l      Install the iMC deployment monitoring agent and deploy the Portal Web Server and Portal Proxy, Portal Server, and User SelfService on slave server B.

l      Use the deployment monitoring agent to start iMC from the master server, and use a web browser to access iMC and Self-Service Center.
