About H3C network adapters

H3C provides network adapters of multiple types for different application scenarios. The network adapters help servers process networking data to reduce the load on processors, improving server stability.

Table 1 lists H3C network adapters.

A row might contain multiple network adapter models, which essentially correspond to the same physical network adapter.

The model name of an network adapter in this document might differ slightly from its model name label. A model name in this document might be simplified. For example, the CNA-10GE-2P-510F-B2-1-X network adapter represents network adapter labels including UN-CNA-10GE-2P-510F-B2-1-X and UN-CNA-10GE-2P-510F-B2-1.

Application scenarios

This section introduces the applicable scenarios for H3C network adapters.

Data center networking

The network adapters provide the following benefits for data center networking:

·          Scaling out of servers and NAS.

·          Fast implementation of data transfer and synchronization between data centers.

·          Reduced network cost through the unification of LANs, SANs and cluster networks.

Cloud computing

The network adapters provide the following benefits for cloud computing:

·          Maximized cloud scale and utilization through network adapter virtualization.

·          Support of high performance computing (HPC) via InfiniBand and FC application without Ethernet network adjustment.

·          Differentiated services through QoS traffic management.

Network storage

Deploying high-performance NAS and Ethernet-based IP SANs can help implement the shared storage system at the file level and block level.

High performance computing

HPC requires high-speed transmission between cluster networks, LANs, and SANs, which can be achieved by deploying high-bandwidth and ultra-low-latency Ethernet networks.

Flexible network configuration

NPAR can split a physical Ethernet interface into four partitions or four virtual interfaces with each virtual interface supporting TCP/IP or iSCSI. You can also configure SR-IOV on a virtual interface to manage network resources flexibly and efficiently.

Virtual environment

The network adapters can provide the following features:

·          Intel virtualization technologyHelps reduce I/O bottlenecks and improve overall server performance.

·          VMDqEnhances processing efficiency of I/O controllers by offloading functionality to the network adapters.

·          VMDcEnables VMs to provide physical host-like performance, increases VM scalability, and enables flexible VM migration between physical servers.

Unification of network environment

Supporting both LANs and SANs, the network adapters integrates previously dispersed network resources, and simplifies I/O adapter deployment and cabling, which reduces management and operating costs.
