Host storage stores the OS, application files, and other activity data of a VM to ensure correct operation of the VM.
Local host disks (disks not added to a distributed storage cluster), distributed storage, SAN storage, and NAS storage can be used by VMs on a host only after they are added as storage pools on the host. The storage pool types are as follows:
Local host disk—Can be added as a local file directory or local file directories (high speed). The high-speed memory storage technology maps DCPMM into local storage to save base images of VMs, which improves base image loading and access efficiency.
Block devices on distributed storage—Can be added as an iSCSI network storage or shared file system storage pool.
LUN on IP SAN—Can be added as an iSCSI network storage or shared file system.
LUN on FC SAN storage—Can be added as an FC network storage or shared file system.
Shared directory on NAS storage—Can be added as a network file system or Windows system shared directory.
