Enabling maintenance mode for a host.
You must enable maintenance mode on a host when you replace its hardware, such as the CPU, memory, power supply, or fan. Before you enable maintenance mode on a host, migrate the running or suspended VMs that are attached to the host to other hosts. A host can enter maintenance mode only when it does not have running or suspended VMs attached.
You can disable data balancing when enabling maintenance mode on a host. When data balancing is disabled, shutting down the host does not cause data migration. If the system fails to disable data balancing on a host, the host still can enter maintenance mode. If a host fails to enter maintenance mode, the system does not disable data balancing on it.
The system cannot deploy or start VMs for a host in maintenance mode.
Disabling maintenance mode for a host.
Disable maintenance mode for a host after you finish maintenance. If data balancing is disabled for a host in maintenance mode, the feature is enabled when the host exits maintenance mode.
Before you enable maintenance mode for a host, make sure no VMs on the host are in running or suspended state.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts. If the system has multiple clusters, select a cluster from the left navigation pane.
Select a host and click Enable Maintenance mode, or enter the summary page of the host and click Enable Maintenance mode.
Select whether to disable data balancing.
In the dialog box that opens, select Automatically migrate running or suspended VMs to another host or Automatically migrate shutdown VMs to another host, and then click OK.
Click OK.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts. If the system has multiple clusters, select a cluster from the left navigation pane.
Select a host and click Disable Maintenance mode, or enter the summary page of the host and click Disable Maintenance mode.
In the dialog box that opens, click OK.
On the top navigation bar, click Hosts. If the system has multiple clusters, select a cluster from the left navigation pane.
Click Exit Maintenance Mode.
In the dialog box that opens, click OK.
Disable Data Balancing: Disable data balancing on a host when you replace its hardware, such as the CPU, memory, power supply, or fan. After the host is powered off, the storage cluster does not identify the host as an abnormal node or migrate its data to other nodes, and disabling data balancing does not interrupt ongoing data migration. You cannot delete the host or add or remove disks for it. As a best practice, stop all services on a host before you disable data balancing on it.
